Present 105 amp (or 110 amp, need to remove and check tomorrow) Numax today seemed unhappy to move the van up a dropped curb. Kept cutting out/stopping. Restart on handset and same again. Charge for 30 mins and all good for a short time. So ........... presuming faithful old battery friend about to claim well earned retirement.

Present battery is now 8 years old and I can't see any reason not to replace with similar. Particular concern is size, capacity and terminal design all of which I can research on the web.

However! Idly checking AGM versus lead/acid I came across the video linked below.

which sets out a case for and against lithium. I've absolutely no interest in lithium but some forum members perhaps have. Hope the link is useful.

PS. Amazed at the range of prices for the same Numax battery.

Only reason to move away from AGM is to save weight ( 12kg vs 28kg)for extra payload or increase useable capacity ( 80% vs 50%). Not only is Li battery more expensive will also need new AC charger and maybe solar charger.

I recently switched to a lithium battery on my caravan and have to say so far very happy with the change. 105ah lithium was 15kg lighter than my 100ah lead acid with much more usable power available.

Every year we go for 3 days off grid to a festival and by the time we headed home we would be at around 75% on the lead acid even with 100w solar panel. This year with lithium the lowest the battery got was 93% however every day by around 10am the battery was back to fully charged with the solar panel.

Biggest bonus was not having to change the standard charger in the caravan and it still charges the lithium battery to 100%. At £360 with a 10 year warranty I am happy with my choice

Have a look at X- PRO batteries.
Same firm as makes NUMAX but around 74% of the price.
It's nightmare trying to decide on battery brands and quality. Tanya says Numax are made in Britain! Yet most searches show them to be made in Korea, but not always by the company that make X-Pro. Some even say Numax are produced by Hankook and badged Hankook for their cars. In reality most batteries are now under one major US conglomerate but produced under brand names in factories around the world. Suffice to say Numax have a good reputation with caravaners, but I would ask if X Pro is the same why is so much cheaper than the Numax equivalent. A comparison of weights might give a clue. Came across this whilst pursuing the web:

"AtlasBX are another large battery manufacturer, based in South Korea. As well as selling batteries under the Hankook brand, they supply labelled batteries to many independent businesses, including just about every battery supplier in the UK. Numax, Lucas, and nearly all of the UK suppliers own label batteries all originate in the same factory, fitted with whatever label either AtlasBX choose to use, or the purchaser has asked them to affix!"

I just go for a recognised brand such as Bosch, Varta, Yuasa etc.
