new car

Gary,

Between the PCV team, we've towed with various versions of the E-Class Mercedes and we've always found them to be hugely impressive towcars. The intial purchase price when new can be pretty scary, but as a used buy, it's got loads to commend it. According to our colleagues at WhatCar?, electrical problems can be an issue, so check everything works before you buy - especially the gearbox, which can suffer software problems which cause irregular shifting.

Hope this helps

Hi there

I am towing 1500kg with an E280CDI estate (assuming you are refering to the diesel) and it has the same engine as the 320 tuned down 3o hp, and its just fine. Mine is post the facelift that is suposed to have cleared up all the electrical gremlins that Nigel refered to but that aside the towing characteristics should be the same.

I get a consistent 26mpg towing and mid 30s solo.
