Now that gives a different meaning to Top Dog.

We are looking after our nephews two dogs for the weekend, a 14 year old Collie and a 2 year old, highly energetic, mongrel. She had me up at 5 am this morning for the second day running. Now she is fast asleep. .

Yes they got her from Battersea DH. DNA test says springer X pointer. I am sure it has some Baskerville in her at 5 am.

On the subject of dog's dynamics we decided yesterday to take our new (to us) Sprocker onto the Avebury Downs to see what she is like off of the lead. Since we had her in mid June she hasn't been free running except in dog exercise fields, where we could work on her recall. Based on our experience with Springers and Setters we know they are designed to "work " away from the handlers. For example one decided to cross the Thames at Lechlade after ducks. The other swam well into the Gairloch at Inverewe, again after seabirds. So this time we planed to be ultra cautious. We even bought Spaniel optimised whistle that works up to 90m. So with no other dogs or livestock to distract her we let her off. 90m was covered faster than Usain Bolt and ever onwards she went. So I resorted to the tried and tested two fingers in mouth, which eventually drew her attention. Came back at full chat only to run by at full speed, and do the same in the opposite direction. Eventually she got it out of her system and started to work like a normal Spaniel. But I will be buying Labrador optimised whistle, good for 1.5km, because I'm sure if she puts up a deer, rabbit or hare the red mist of audio failure will descend.

The white dot in the picture is the mutt on her outrun.
