If the vehicle was designed before k.e. 2004 then probably no necessity and it seems they are using the same design with a bigger engine? We had a similar issue with a 2013 Shogun which did not have TPMS or Daytime lights although legislation cam about in about 2011.
The UK IVA system for one off and low volume production specifically omits some safety features required on mass produced vehicles (air bags and catalytic converters being others).
That "concession" is down to dates of Type Approval as an annual model "change" doesn't necessarily mean a new Type Approval - however that's irrelevant as the new Escort doesn't need Type Approval anyway, just Individual Vehicle Approval (IVA) as it's production numbers will be so low.
AFAIK the Welsh company is using an original Ford Escort bodyshell, which they strengthen and then build up as a modern performance care - the Boreham cars will be all new.
They use shells assembled with reproduction panels. Iāve seen a few and the fit & finish is better than the original Escort. The upgrades to meet the IVA requirements are very well done and still fit in with the original cars ethos rather than just looking like theyāve just been glued on.
The latest version of the manual isnāt much different to the first version that replaced SVA several years ago. Itās available for download on the dot-gov site.
The latest version of the manual seems not to make any reference to ABS, but only says "Ensure that all vehicles are fitted with braking systems capable of stopping the vehicle in a safe controlled manner ............ without the control of the driver". It is perhaps arguable whether this is possible without ABS. I see, however, that neither daytime running lights nor tyre pressure monitoring systems are mentioned in the IVA manual. That would indicate that it would be permissible to use a vehicle covered by IVA but without these features in the UK.
Iāve done a Google search and found six websites that state abs was mandated in 2004. Viz Parkerās wikepedia, auto express etc. where is your info coming from. Cars Iāve had well before 2004 all came with ABS. Ie firts generation Mondeo. Early 1990s My 1990 E30 325i M Sport had abs too.
Many websites can be inaccurate as we have all seen time and time again. Only the official ones are worth considering. Who cares whether it was mandatory or not in 2004 unless they want to provoke an argument?
I was referring to mass market vehicles. I thought the thread had sorted out IVA.
I really donāt see why anyone who perhaps questions or challenges a point of view should be accused of wanting to provoke an argument. After all arenāt we rational adults and if you donāt want to get involved with the ātreadā just move on to another such as EVs š±Many websites can be inaccurate as we have all seen time and time again.
