Went to a preview of the New Jaguar SUV yesterday, big and chunky and very plush inside, it looks like it will be priced around the Q5,X3 area, but does seem a bigger car.

No weights, power wise the current engines that Jag use, interior is nothing like the Autocar link.
It isnt out till late 2015 early 2016 , but it was a focus group looking at spec's and trims etc.
Also had a look at the new Freelander family and a new Range Rover concept car.

The Freelander family looked very strange , an Evoque look with a high back end didnt suit at all really, the Concept car looked stunning from the front , like a new RR sport but lower and more aerodynamic, looked quite long? , the rear was awful , sweeping up and rounded like the stern of a ship, they had a mock up of the interior, this was very cool with a drivers dash which is basically a screen .
You can move the displays around so you could have the speedo , rev counter sat nav display in different positions to suit.
Centre console is all touch screen with very few switches and buttons.

We can thoroughly recommend the Freelander 2. We got one when they first came out, as we changed to a heavier caravan.
Anyone thinking of getting a SUV would do well to test drive one - especially after test driving the others, which we did!. No competition.

Please read the replies as this post has nothing to do with a Freelander 2?
The conversation is about the not yet released Freelander family which is longer than the Freelander 2 looks different ,has 7 seats and could drive completely differently?

Not to sure about JLR's thinking behind this. It seems a huge investment to simply move some of the buyers from LR to Jaguar when they are all within the same company.

Likely to appeal to a different sector of the market. Jaguar will be trying to draw from the Q5/X3 customer base in all probability.

But don't they already cover that sector with the Freelander 2 and Discovery 4 ?

No not at all , all the car studies i do people think Jaguar is a more upmarket brand that LR, its to encourage people to change from other brands, not necessarily from LR.
People tag the Jag brand to the likes of BMW, Mercedes , they see LR as a work horse?
Its completely different to a Freelander, more appealing to the younger generation which is where Jaguar are trying to move to and try and shake off the old persons tag (not my words)
These forum groups are really interesting with people from all backgrounds the only common ground is the category of car, you'd be amazed what people think of Brands and their perception of it, hence why they run these.

Brand badging has been going on for many years. At one point in the history or BMC the basic mini was re-badged Austin and Morris, and with minor body work tweeks also Wolsely, Riley, Vanden Plas.

Apart from cosmetic differences and trim levels they were same, and the only reason to re-badge was to tempt customers through brand loyalties.

With Jaguar SUV, its almost certain to try and tempt customners from other maques as others have pointed out
