American living in Spain, moving to Sicily soon. Recently purchased a 20 yo custom made caravan (falls in the <750kg category for Spain). It's habitable but does need some work, I'm looking to install solar/electrical update (currently only shore power, no off-grid capability), update the water storage and supply, Smart monitoring system, AC replacement (currently has household split unit), minor door/hatch/window repair and also install new countertops (bamboo from Leroy Merlin). These are some older shots of the interior.

Welcome to the Forum. Greater than 750Kg.....understatement of the day. Hope the project goes well.

Welcome.
By "custom made" do you mean it was produced by a major manufacturer but specified to order?
Is that a Hymer?

It was built by a company called Caravanas Castosa. I don't think they are around any longer, I can't find any information on them but it may have been another manufacture that they remodeled and put their own name on it.

Am I the only one perplexed by such a large caravan being under 750 kg? We have a Lunar Clubman ES, lighter that all it's UK-built competitors, which is smaller than this caravan but is 1500 kg.

That's what I thought when I first saw it. I think when I've completed my renovations it will be at least 1000kg, which is still no problem for the XV.

Looks very similar to a Hymer appearance. Goes well with the XV/Crosstrek
My only concern is the height of the towball on the XV is just over 50cm but the caravan hitch is around 34cm. The caravan sits low in the back when towed.

The car towball seems too high.
This may help.

Sorry that was a typo, the towball is 44cm to center, so just over 40 not 50. But still tows nose up. Thanks for the info also. I have a US specs Toyota Rav4 V6 but couldn't get an EU approved hitch installed on it, so I went and got the XV.

The car's towball height is measured with the caravan attached so may be lower than unladen.

Does the XV have self levelling suspension as I have recently sold a SJ Forester which had SL suspension that started to raise the cars height once underway as it worked on a hydraulic pump principle.
