I have recently purchased a Globetrotter GT 1994. On teh control board we have a swtich which says

you can switch from car to the middle to c/van. I have no instructions and would like to know what this would be used for (there is light indicator but no matter which way I turn it on it doesn't light up) where connected to car or power point.

Help would be aprpeciated

Michelle,

You might be better to put this query into the technical thread ....as chit chat is for non-caravan issues.

Hello Michelle

The switch controls the source of the 12v supply. On site, set to 'van' when the leisure battery will be used. If you can't use the leisure battery for some reason, set to 'car', when the car battery will be used (but don't overdo of course). In this case, you will need a supplementary cable to connect the van to the car.

The middle position is used when travelling.

One small addition to what Chris said, if when you are travelling and you need to keep your fridge on 12v leave the switch on "car". If when doing this don't turn the cars engine off for too long because it will drain the battery. I normally leave the switch on "car" when travelling anyway because apparently it will give a small charge to the leisure battery. Once on site I switch it to "van".

If the car is wired correctly the fridge will be powered via a split charge relay, which is energised when the ignition warning light is extinguished (i.e. when the alternator is charging the system).

If wired in this manner you can`t discharge the car battery with the fridge no matter how long you remain attached to the car. Similarlr there should be a blockind diode in place to stop a discharged car battery from drawing current from the van battery.
