I have driven both the L200 and Navarra through work and found them awful except when heavily laden. For that reason alone I would personally steer clear of pickups. Im looking at two years old, Ill never buy new again and the Disco is too pricey in comparison for that age unless its got 100k miles on the clock. Its coming down strongly in favour of another Shogun at the moment. Fuel consumption is high I grant you but its something I can live with for such a stable and acomplished tug.
There are many reports of them being "a bit agricultural" and I agree with that statement. But its what I like about it. They are tough as boots and utterly bombproof, cant say that about many cars. It carries the loads, carries seven if needed, pulls the biggest caravans and will go anywhere, and if you asked it to do all that at the same time it would do that too.
That said, I absolutely loved the XC70 and would have another like a shot. The XC90 I have no experience of but I do like them too. For me, things like the Sorento, Santa Fe, XTrail and CR-V are neither one thing nor the other. If I am going to go 4x4, it will have to be a proper one.
