Hi All. In 1978, a friend of mine traveled to a caravan site in the lake district on his motorbike to stay with his friend. The next morning he found his motorbike had been stolen, apparently pushed of the site through the night, the police were called and the theft dully recorded, and that was the end of it. In 2007 he got a call from the police in Devon who had traced him through DVLC records, they said they had recovered his stolen bike and would he come and collect it from the compound. When he turned up, there was his bike, shiny like new, it had been rebuilt and a lot of money spent on it and was a real 30 year old classic head turner, it started up first time and he rode it straight back home to Newcastle and has actually ended up in pocket rather than lost out. He now sleeps with it in his bedroom.

I feel sorry for the probably innocent person who spent all his time & money restoring an old motorbike only to be told it had been stolen 30 years ago & would be taken off him.

The lesson here obviously applies to the purchase of used caravans . Make sure the seller has good legal title before you purchase. CRIS etc will help.

Cheers
