Nissan Terrano

Heard good and bad reviews. All the online review don't rate the reliability but then contradict themselves and say it's a good workhorse!!

Any pros or cons appreciated. Looking for a reliable, 4x4.

Hi Chelsea

We had a 3 litre diesel Mark II SVE - bought it at two years old with 21,000 miles on the clock and kept it for three years. It never let us down at all, a very strong and powerful towcar.

Only downsides I recall were that it was mighty thirsty and it doesn't have a particulate filter, so the front of the caravan was splattered with black sooty deposits after every trip.

Cheers

hi,

had a 3lt sve 03 plate teranno, good car, pulled caravan no problem, yes lots of sooty deposits on front of van,but reliable.changed it for 2 lt x trail aventura 2008 plate 173 bhp....better fuel consumption, this pulls caravan better than teranno.nothing wrong with teranno just x trail cheaper to run.

Don't buy the Maverick the Ford version, scrubs tyres off every 5000 miles, due to the ford power steering set up, had one for about about 3 months soon went back to the Shogun, her indoors was not amused has she wanted another Shogun, mind you that was fifteen years ago probibly not alot about now.

Thanks for your replies.

Nigel - how would I know if it was the Ford version? Is this an older model.

We've seen a 51 plate locally for

our 2.7 Terrano is nearly 10 years old now ,its done about 60000 and is still in showroom condition ,we have never had any trouble with it at all ,i think the soot marks on the front of the van are caused by a cold engine , driving too and back from Spain the front of the van remained soot free ,Carl Rodgerson done a review in Practical caravan some years back and rated it highly ,if you cant find the review i will type it on here ,also the Ford version is called a Maverick

We had a Ford Maverick (same as Terrano) 2.7TD, P Reg. It was a great car, no trouble at all in the 2 years we had it. Only downside was that it is quite highsided and thus was a little unstable in windy conditions. The fuel consumption was quite high too, but was really comfortable to drive and had lots of extras. Didn't have to change tyres at all during our time and the power steering was fine.

Would have another, but much prefer the Hyundai Tucson which we have now.

As for know if it's a Maverick or a Terrano - simple, Ford badge for Maverick, Nissan badge for Terrano.

Just to update:

We've put down a deposit on a 2.7 SE auto Terrano locally today, low mileage and in good condition. It will do just the job for us as a leisure car/towing.

Thanks so much for all your input and feedback!

Hi, we had a Terrano for 12 years and it towed for ALL that time. It covered nearly 160,000 miles and did very well on every tow. Highly recomend one. However, we had the 2.4 petrol and it could be very thirsty beast.

It finally gave up, but had a cracking life out of it, right up to it's end. The van we have now is just a tad too big for the terrano to cope.
