Seen arriving on site last week, a newish X-Trail 2.2dCi towing a Bailey Senator Carolina twin-axle. As I own a similar X-Trail and tow a Senator Oklahoma (1499kg MTPLM), I was rather taken aback. The X-trail kerb weight is circa 1625kg, the Carolina MRO is 1459kg and MTPLM is 1739kg. I am aware that the X-Trail tech spec shows max tow capability as 2000kg but surely no-one would deliberately choose to tow more than 100% of kerb weight? Yes, you could say he could be keeping the payload down but he only has 166kg available for total payload including gas bottles, essential equipment, personal effects etc etc.

I saw the same thing on the way home from Sherwood on Monday. The owner may be very experienced and may be more than capable of towing at that level. Personaly I would avoid it but I doubt he / she was breaking any laws
