Nissan X-Trail

Hi

I've recently bought an 18 month old Nissan X-Trail 2.2 ltr diesel with 27,000 miles on the clock. It seems to be a good tow vehicle, a recent 200 mile trip, mostly motorways, and I was hardly ever out of 6th gear. However, the engine sounds very 'clattery' when starting up from cold. Does anyone know if this is normal. Once warmed up a bit there is just a little bit of what I think is valve noise. Any comments anyone ? Thanks

Hi John, We got a nissan X-trail, our is the 2.2 di Sport and it a very good tow car, we get 30 to the gallon towing, local run 36 and long run 40 plus, when I start the car up in the morning is just a little bit noisy but once warm up it fine, Did you get the car service from the dealer where you brought it from? But at only 27.000 on the clock it sould be perfect mine is 105.000 mile on the clock just under five years old, but we change the oil every six month then the next six month a full service other than that it been fine, But do watch the kerbweight on the X- Trail, some of them are lower than the older one, but the new one 2008 model are 1700 kw, if you go for a auto you can only tow a van max weight up to 1350kw, other than that it a fine tow car, Happy Caravaning, Trevor

Hi John

I've got a 2005 X-Trail 2.2DCi with 63000 on the clock, had it for about 9 months, it too is a bit clattery from cold but I've been assured that this is down to the push rod type of engine and is quite normal. I've towed with it quite a few times and found it excellent with plenty of torque. I'm well happy with mine and don't think you should worry about it. You could always turn the radio up.

As the others say when cold it is a little noisy,once warm its ok.I just hope the MPG is as good as there's when it gets more

miles on the clock.

I can concur with the other messages. At this time of year, my Aug 2006 2.2dCi Columbia (circa 16,000 miles) is definitely clattery when starting from cold. At other times of the year it is quieter.

Ive got a 2005 Xtrail SVE with only 21,000 on the clock, it too is clattery when cold but ok once warm its also a very good tow car but I do not find it very good on fuel I am lucky to get 26 to the gallon towing (but towing 60/70 what do I expect)

We've had a 2.2 Spoert '53 plate for a couple of years now and love it. The mpg is better towing than our 2.0l Omega was solo.

Hi All we to have a nissan x-trail 2003 2.2.

We love it and being new to caravaning (6 months)find it a great tow car.

I do seem to remember there was a recall due to some tentioner on one of the belts it works its way loose and makes the engine sound very agricultural the fix seemed to work ok.

It's a characteristic of hydraulic tappets - when you start up the tappets haven't pressurised until the oil starts ciculating and warms up thus making the engine sound tappety

There was a recall on the timing chain and I had one of my XTs done

Nissan recall goes along the lines of you go in to the dealer and say that you have a problem and they then recall that there is one

They aren't very good at letting you know if you don't ask

I have just read in the handbook for the new X Trail that under emergency procedures it says not to tow a trailer when using the temporary spare wheel

Its a full size wheel but on a 16in steel rim rather than a 17in alloy and the spare wheel well will take the standard road wheel so why Nissan have adopted thi system is baffling

The tyre is specially made with speed restriction molded into the rubber

I thought that I would buy a matching alloy and tyre until the Nissan dealer quoted
