I am fully aware of the type of people everyone is talking about. I too am guilty of this stereotyping, we are all intitled to express what we feel on these types of forums.

There were certain phrases on this thread that got my back up. i.e "Slobish parents" "kids, don't even dare ask for your ball back" and so on.

I just want to go away with the family and not have to worry who i am parked up next to, afterall this is why we have chosen this type of holiday style now.

I Totally agree!

Isn't that what we all want when we go away? Unfortunately we don't always get what we want!

Sorry Tugster, theres not much more I can say apart from what already has been said. You do come across as a bit of a pessimist and worrier but there isn't any need to be like that.

Simply if your kids are well behaved, don't play ball, fly kites or ride their bikes around peoples caravans all will be ok. Mal puts it ably, others are also there to enjoy themselves and all will be happy if the above is adhered to. Don't worry about them making noise, that is kids, as I said before, kids dont talk to each other even when two feet apart, they shout and I was probably the same at their ages although I did have angelic tendencies :O)

Unfortunately, there are good parents and some not so good, the same as dog owners, I have stayed on sites where children have been badly behaved and some dog owners did not stop their aniumal yapping or clean up after them!!

It is the warden who if made aware of the problem needs to sort it out. But if nobody complains then we cannot expect it to stop.

Spot on, I agree, the warden must be told of any infringment of the rules, and only WHEN we all do this will anything be done.

In all honesty Nick, I believe the reason nobody complains to either the perpetrators or the warden isn't because they are afraid of them but are afraid of the damage they might find to their van after being away.

It would be extremely difficult to prove who did it and even if there were witness's they would be loathe to step into the fray incase their van got damaged to :O(

Well put tugster. you have more than just a valid point.

Whilst i agree actions around and near to other peoples property should be shown respect by ALL, the impression that one gets is children should be seen and not herd!

Caravanning principly is a family activity, with activity comes noise, if you don't like it, go to adult only sites.

But then some would still moan about one thing or another.....

Well done Mod. Next month I celebrate my 40th year caravanning. I bought my first one, a 10ft 6ins, 5 berth would you believe, in Germany in March 1968. This was after getting washed out of our tent in Italy the summer before. I have realy enjoyed it in the past and still do, we are off for 3 months France /Spain in May and looking forward to it. But I do hope that I will not be pitched next to anyone who is prepared to get on thier "high horse" as can be witnessed on this post. I have not had one comlaint in my forty years caravanning niether have I made one. Come on chaps "LIVE AND LET LIVE". JTS

Oh dear... there seems to be quite a ruck going on here. Makes me laugh, I use forums to do with BMWs, motorbikes, Bargains, and even one about Films. I would hazard a guess that the average age on the above forums is 20-35 and no one acts in this kind of manner. I wonder what the average age is on a forum about Caravans. I hope I never park next to some of the people I have had debates with on this subject.

Reading through the posts again I see no problem with the exception of gio taking out just a part of my post, which I made two days ago, and looking for an argument.

The rest of the posts were made trying to put Tugsters mind at rest that because he has kids theres no need to worry. From his comments we have obviously failed to alleviate his fears which now makes me a bit suspicous about his original posting and think maybe he's a troll.

At no time did anyone attack children.

Can I just say that I don't feel insulted by gio's comments. He is entitled to his opinion and I just treat it as a bit of banter. I hope he doesn't take what I say personally either :O)

I too use other motoring forums - the language makes me cringe sometimes but differences of opinion are tolerated far better than caravan forums, the plural being important.

While I sympathise with damage to persons property as a result of ball games children need to play.Children should not be kept on a leash and be restricted to their parents caravans. It is their holiday too - the good thing about caravan sites is that children can be left to their own devices and in a safe environment. It gives them independance and developes social skills.

There is alot of talk of kids being noisy and disrespectful but that works both ways.If you shout at a child,as in life, you will inevitably get as good as you give !!

To me the main gripe that I have on sites is people speeding around in their cars and not sticking to speed limits - nobody ever questions them - probably all the kid haters trying to get off site !!!

Jonathon, you say "While I sympathise with damage to persons property as a result of ball games children need to play."

Do I take it that although it's a pity if someones van does get damaged by kids playing ..tough $h*t, they should still be allowed to enjoy themselves, if anyone thinks otherwise they are child haters?

If that's not what you are implying it certainly reads like that. That is as bad as the person responding that we have insurance so stop moaning and get it repaired, let the kids enjoy their football.

Jonathen,

You say "can be left to their oown devices". No problem so long as they know how to behave, and obey the site rules.

My grandchildren have the rules explained to them, the ones which affect them, they know how to behave and always really enjoy their caravan holidays as do many other children. Children with responsible parents mostly become responsible children.

In 40 years of caravanning, and made many friends of both adults and children over the years ,it is the few irresponsible ones, both adults and children who spoil it for the vast majority.

The reason I say "Kids ...... dont even think of asking for your ball back" is as follows:

In no particular order (wanted to say that for ages ) lol)

1. Sites have clear rules about ball games.

2. There are designated children's play areas.

3. Kids often take no notice when (being given their ball back) they are politely asked to stop playing around the caravans. SO

4. Tell them you will only give the ball back to an adult and after their parent has been disturbed a few times and forced to ask you for the ball they tend to get p*ssed off and make sure their child stays away from your van !!

Which is what should have happened in the first place.

Most kids are no trouble at all and it can be a joy to hear their laughter as they play BUT there ARE those who can turn what should be peaceful break into a nightmare.

I raised my children and when I go away I do NOT want to raise someone elses.

Steve
