I agree with LB - children aged 2 and 5 should be behaving themselves suitable to their capabilities at their ages. I am fed up with being accused of being an old fuddy duddy and a child hater.

Years ago children were generally better behaved due to their parent's attitudes and expectations of society. Times have changed and SOME children are not taught right from wrong, respect, consideration etc. It is just to eliminate the RISK of being pitched next to this type of family, that some of us now prefer quieter or adult only sites.

Please accept that as life progresses our needs change and after bringing up our own families with time and dedication, and also looking after four elderly parents, three of whom we nursed through terminal illnesses, the next stage comes. For us that includes being closely involved with our children and grandchild and also being away in the caravan for some quiet time to ourselves. I do not consider that makes us old fuddy duddies, child haters, etc. etc. and at some stage in the future, when your children have flown, you might find yourself at the same stage. Perhaps then, you will have a greater understanding and acceptance of people.

It's nice to see some considered replies. Again I just want to make the point that the only reason I felt compelled to comment in the first place was one persons threat to use violence against a parent. We all seem to agree on basic rules of behaviour. We don't all agree on how we deal with breaches.

Happy caravaning and to all you grand parents, keep doing what you do. The kids love you and you are the glue in many situations keeping families together.

"even Brian goes off on one if anyone as much as mentions a bad word about kids."

Hardly fair Lord B, in fact I rarely post in the "children" debate as to be honest it's all been said before.

My comment was aimed at those who think all children are monsters and can't even hear one without thinking they are up to know good. Sadly there are a few of these people on this Forum.

I, along with the vast majority think children should not ruin others enjoyment or property but I am not going to join thoses who seem to want all children chained up .

And R & J ,whoever you are , have a good look at your parenting skills if you can't treat your kids like dogs. Good wind up , do you want us to teach them to sh*t on the footpath and lick their b*lls.

As several people have said, this topic has been fully covered before. Unless there is something new to add to the debate, I suggest we let this one wind down now before someone says something I regret.

And there's no need to take that as an invitation for one last broadside either!

I am a single parent through no fault of my own, have good job and own house, with a 13 year old son, so please before we go any further those who dont agree with 'single mothers' dont start, I do not scrounge of the goverment or anyone else!

My son when on site likes to play with other children both his age and younger and it is not practical for me to try to supervise his every movement, he is 13 after all. He will take his bike or scooter with him but does not play football, although this is one of his great passions. If he was to actually upset anyone I would deal with it immediately, as I would if my dog upset anyone on the site.

The reason I am making this point is in reply to the post that stated everyone thinks they children are perfect and watched constantly and that nobody with a less than perfect child had come forward on this thread. My son is not perfect but at his age I cannot watch his every movement but rely, and to date it has never failed, on the way he has been brought up i.e. manners and to respect others property.

Looks like this thread has ended on a good note, nothing else to say. Debbi I would think almost everyone would have to agree afterall most of us will have brought up children just like yours sounds to be. Sensible.

Trying not to upset the moderator, could I just say that who ever Brian is, could he note that when dog behaviour is mentioned here and else where it is often said that there are no bad dogs, just bad owners!

What's wrong with applying the same rule to parenting?

I doubt that Lord B who I believe to be a dog owner trains his dogs to foul the footpath.

I come from the camp that believes parents are responsible for their childrens behaviour and manners the same as dog owners are responsible for their dogs begaviour, that does not mean that children are to be treated like dogs !!!!

I don't see that as a "wind up".

I have my own Utopia. I only have to travel 9 miles and I'm at the foothills of the Black Mountains, all this without even leaving my estate. During the day I go and collect the tythes off my peasants, a most enjoyable experience as I walk the spinney's, watching the butterflies flitting among the glades and the hum of the bee's, busy reaping natures golden harvest. In the evenings, as the sun sinks below Black Darren, I can sip my chilled Chardonay that my butler has just poured me and watch the swallows skimming the shallows of Desmereldas pool, catching the late hatch. Later my maid comes to undress me for bed, bringing me my Horlicks and Viagra, what more can a man want, alcohol, money and bawdy women :O) Heaven on earth.
