Hi I cannot get a gas supply to the Belling cooker in our recently purchased 2003 Ace Jubilee Herald, all the other gas appliences in the caravan seem to work Ok .I suspect it is the gas cut out on the hob lid .Has any one had the same problem ? if so how easy/expensive was it to fix. Thanks in advance for any advice.

David, I had this problem on our 2006 Award. We found that the glass lid had to be up straight and pushed backwards slightly. The cutout appears to start to operate at less than 5 degrees from upright. Is it possible for you to remove the lid and operate the arm independantly so that you can see if it functions ? There is a definete click as it operates. It may be a simple adjustment of the mechanical arm but I have never checked it out.

I decided to bite the bullet and remove the cooker and check the gas cut out switch. The switch is an aluminium block with a sprung brass pin in the middle which is pressed by a sheet metal bracket when the hob lid is raised.Water had at some time been spilt down the back of the hob causing corrosion around the pin which was easily fixed with a pair of pliers and some three in one oil.

Hello David,

I am very concerned to read what you have done. Now I admit I am not familiar with the shut off valve in question, but I have come across other shut of devices where the operating pin has corroded. In some designs the quality of the surface of the pin forms part of the gas seal, and corrosion or abrasions can create a gas leak path. Also LPG are petroleum based and will denature hydrocarbon based lubricants.

In an enclosed area even a small gas leak can have devastating consequences, so I strongly advise that you seek assistance from the caravan dealer to ensure the device is in a safe operating condition.

Hi John thank you for your concern however rest assured that the corrosion was very light and restricted to the top of the block and not to the pin the problem was more to do with the poor design and positioning of the sheet metal bracket which was not making positive contact with the top of the pin which took very little effort to free.I do take on board what you are saying and will get the appliance checked when the caravan is serviced.
