Noise level inside 'van

We are new to caravanning so we're not sure what is right but it's really noisy inside our van, things like road noise, people talking outside, morning bird song, etc. It's not really any quieter than if the windows are open.

Is it possible the windows need new rubber seals, or are caravans just noisy on the inside?

I'm aware the van walls are thin and need to be for the sake of keeping the weight down but i's keeping me awake.

As an extra question along the same lines, should the roof light have some kind of rubber seal too?

Many thanks as always

hi tina, iam a very light sleeper and used to be wakened at the slightest sound the noise is coming in through all the floor vents so unless you block these up (not recommended) the sound will come in. i find around 60cl 's of glenfiddich or 6 pints of heavy usually keeps me in a coma until a reasonable hour! give that a go.

Tina, whilst the windows are double glazed, they are not sealed units as at home and as has been said, withthe fixed ventilation sound will travel into the van.

As for rooflights, NO they do not have rubber seals as they form part of the fixed ventilation. which must never be obstructed.

It wouldn't matter if my van was sound proof... if my wife starts snoreing, try doing a bit of excersise before sleep.

Thanks guys, I'm liking the Glenfitch idea, sounds far more appealling than the exercise options.

Rest assured I will not be blocking any ventilation points. Maybe we were just over-tired as it didn't seem so bad the last couple of nights.

Lookiing forward to getting away again soon to check out the above solution LOL
