At most times of the year I would suggest Dunkerque cross-country to Abbeville (through Hesdin), then Rouen, Chartres, Nevers, Clermont Ferrand and then down the A75. However, that's a very high route (highest point as high as Mount Snowdon summit) and you could end up in six feet of snow (like this www.panoramio.com/photos/original/2887076.jpg or this www.panoramio.com/photos/original/2894120.jpg). Our friends got stuck in similar snow at Easter one year and we went through a heavy snowstorm on the A75 at Easter a few years ago, too!

thanks Val A. we have been down that way in December ,normally departing from Calais and going around Paris perique , and across the high bridge at the Milau gorge ,as you say you can get snowed in , when we went a few years ago we had light snow ,and temperatures of minus 7 crossing the pyrinees , some friends of ours were snowed in for 2 days in the services ,so we thought we would try an alternative route to Vilanova park ,and try and keep the toll charges down
The journey I outlined can be done almost toll-free - there are a few sections where it's sensible to use the autoroute - around Orleans, for instance, but only for a junction or two. You do have to pay to cross the Millau viaduct, obviously - though if you want you can still do the drive through Millau itself at a little cost in extra time!

Just a cautionary note, we have used Great Satmar Farm for a number of years but for the last couple of years the site has been badly neglected. There is no longer an honesty box and the grass is of an unmanagable length.Even for an overnight stay, we will be looking elsewhere in future.

Have taken the plunge and booked via Caravan Club. Out Sunday 16th May at 10-00 and back 3rd July at 13-00. No problem booking tried several variations on days and times but best times back Sunday look to be already taken.
