If there is one thing I really dont like about christmas, its christmas cards. Feeling duty bound to send cards to people you will probably never see again, and those that you never want to see again, what a waste of time effort and money.

TBH, I dont like much about christmas full stop. Its lost all meaning of what its really about and is just an excuse for industrial scale wallet bashing.

BAH HUMBUG!

I don't like the commercialism of Christmas, but to be honest neither my wife nor I take much notice of it. But I do like shopping for Christmas trees with my granddaughter, and then watching her decorate both of them, and make us a wreath for the door. I like Christmas Eve supper with the family and Christmas Day and Boxing Day with them. Last year our grandson and son didn't join us due to Covid precautions, but this year the grandson and his partner are coming around. We have done Christmas for the family since 1977 after my mother died, and have had nice times hosting partners and ex's various too, plus their pooches. One year our grandson and his partner arrived in the patrol car in full regalia and tucked into the breakfast buffet like mad. Then carried on leaving with blue lights flashing.Thats why it was nice to take the caravan away over New Year and relax.

Herself deals with the majority of Christmas cards, I only write and send a very limited number to close family members.
She loves Christmas. the shopping, the buying and wrapping of presents and the decorations, so I wouldn't want to dampen her enthusiasm.
When I've got over the thought of going Christmas shopping I don't really mind it as long as we can get it over and done with in one go.
My granddaughter is 10 years old, so Christmas is still a magical time for her, and I love to see my sons and families for drinks and snacks on Christmas night.
Various festive choral performances that I take part in, some religious and some definitely not, bring some Christmas spirit for me personally.
Overall, Christmas is still a special time for us, and I especially enjoy looking forward to another year with lighter evenings and warmer weather.

Christmas memories are special the older you become, remembering times with those no longer here but also with family still present giving presents, making the Christmas meal (something i do every year) ,This year is even more so due to lockdown last year - savour every moment of this special time of year .

One meal that I look forward to is Christmas Day breakfast where we have a real mix of foods and it sort of morphed from the Boxing Day breakfast before we went out with the hunt. The "jewels" are the Dickinson Melton Mowbray pork pie, and Long Clawson Stilton, and Red Leicester . Added will be home cooked ham and smoked meats, smoked and pickled fish, an array of pickles and chutneys with fresh rustic breads. And Everard's beers too. A sort of mega Ploughman's which is eaten mainly by the blokes, with the ladies seemingly preferring something more conventional. My grandsons buddy couldn't believe it when they diverted from patrol to drop in for breakfast, and I couldn't believe how much he ate too.

Adding insult to injury 50 2nd class stamps cost me £33.00. Time for E cards I think😜
We only send cards to immediate relatives. Of those cards to send just three cards can cost us in excess of £5! Otherwise they are mostly hand delivered around the neighbourhood and pub with very few exceptions. Cost of stamps is no joke! Just over £13 for 6 x 1st class and 12 x 2nd class stamps. No wonder a lot of people use ecards.

Think yourself lucky you don’t have many to send to overseas long haul destinations. We all agreed to stop the long haul gifts 10 years ago as the p&p was a lot more than the gift and theres only so many ornaments and coasters you can accommodate.

A good couple of years ago OH bought a DVD player for grandson in South Africa. Player cost about £60 however postage was over £90. She never did that again. LOL!

Actually, these e-cards are a very good idea for people you dont like. Send them an e-card, and they have to use their own printer, ink and paper to get it. Its even better than deliberately forgetting to put a stamp on it!

Many of them you simply watch the action and listen to the music.

I'm a miserable old never sent my wife a card of any type right from the beginning.
She was the one to send cards, but last year when she was to ill to do anything, I past the message around that no one will be receiving any cards/ presents at all from then onwards.

Christmas will not be the same without her, from our first Christmas it was a ritual past down from her parents. Christmas eve, hot pork sarnies after mass every one invited Turkey Christmas day all family and Boxing day dinner for every one.

This year Daughters in charge, Christmas eve still hot pork sarnies at my house, Christmas day still turkey but at no two daughters every one, and boxing day no one daughters every one, not a lot changed there.

We buy our postage stamps from Costco, they are cheaper than at the post office. £49.99 for 60 1st class stamps. Works out at 0.83p each
