Omnivent roof fan

What would be the most cost effective means of replacing the fan motor in an omnivent roof fan?

I've seen them new for £70+ - surely there has to be a cheaper option!

Do you know for sure the motor is faulty, depending on type the fault could be in the switches, loose connection, etc.

I thought that my fan had failed, as testing before my first trip out this year it would not work,Tried it on site and it worked, found out by accident that my van has two different wiring circuits for the battery lights,some work without the light switch switched on others work whether the switch is down or not.

The fan will only work when the light switch is on.

As the fan has three speeds it has power resistors switched in circuit to generate the lower speeds. The resistors or (more likely) the connections to them may be at fault. Also the fan, at full speed, does take some current so you could have a switch problem or, again more likely, poor connections on the switches due to overhearting.

Best thing to do is take the whole unit out and check motor continuity with a meter before condemning it.

There is a caravan spares specialist in English Street in Hull - you will probably trace them through Yell - who do all sorts of spares like that. Also go on eBay as there are a couple of 'van spres suppliers on there. I payed less than half price for a brand new replacement Whale pump.

There's three different voltages off the switches to the fan - it can be started with a nudge but only works for a bit before grinding to a halt.

All indications point to the motor, i just don't fancy shelling out mega bucks for a replacement!
