We have just joined the C&MHC, but have just found out that a site we visited many moons ago is C&CC!
What to do? DFo most people join just one or both of the mainstream clubs to enable access to the majority of sites?.......or do I just want my cake and eat it!!

I've been a member of the Caravan Club for donkey's years but I fancied a stay at a CC&C club site in Dorset for a couple of weeks and since I don't have to pay a membership fee to the CC, I decided to join the other club. So now I have both.

Check the site is not just affiliated to the C&C, ring them and I think it use to be possible to stay on there sites anyway without being a member but a tad more few pennies
Or ring the C& CC and tell them you want to check them out before you join.

I agree, the cost of belonging to both is minimal given the overall cost of the hobby.
I have just taken out Mayday cover with the CC and it looks like I will be insuring my new caravan with the CCC as 40% cheaper than the CC.
Also of course a great choice of sites between them.

It's usually possible to stay on C&CC sites as a non-member on payment of a fee, but it would be more cost effective to join rather than to pay the non-member pitch fee. ;)

we have been members of both since 2012 when we bought our first van. since then we have used CL and CS sites extensively and the occasional use of main club sites. I have also taken advantage of member offers from both clubs which have saved me a few quid along the way. For me, it offers flexibility extra choices on places to stay and especially in the winter as we use the van all year round
hope this helps with your decision

Like some others, we are members of both, and for us for touching 40 years.
To best exploit what is a big investment in a caravan and tow vehicle the fees cost of a second club fades into insignificance for what it brings.
The experience of recent years is the Caravan & Truck Club has way oversold itself and adopted a counter usable booking system, resulting in great difficulty to get a booking on a site of choice, at relatively short notice, that bridges a weekend. Getting one the day before needing it is a lot easier, just planning a week or so before is a nightmare.
The C&CC system or its different level of popularity affords a very much better chance of planning a structured trip.
We have also found the C&CCs rallying and temporary holiday sites[DAs & THS] formula requiring usually no pre-planning or booking a real gem, and so much more user-friendly than the CC's system. But with both the rallies themselves are great, it is just the system the CC use does not work well for us.

I'm sure that most people who take up caravanning do so because it seems to offer a degree of freedom to visit places, on their own terms and generally at a lower nightly cost that having to use hotels or bed and breakfast accommodation. This is particularly true if you have a family.

Owning and using a touring caravan only makes sense if you are going to make good use of it, in other words not just a two weeks a year, Otherwise the cost of ownership will be likely to exceed the cost of a family package holiday. So caravanning is more likely to be for those who want to be able to make a lot of use of the caravan.

This is where the Clubs can start to make a difference. Firstly they open up the range of sites that are available across the country. Some sites are not available to non members. The clubs also provide some guarantees of the standards of the sites, and a complaints procedure if there are failures in that respect.

Club membership can sometimes include discounts at some sites.

The clubs offer car and caravan insurance and breakdown packages, that are properly tailored to the needs of caravanners. They may not be the cheapest, but you be unlikely to find better overall packages - check the small print especially about recovery of caravan sizes.

Membership also gives access to a range of other services such technical and legal advice

There are sometimes club member meets, some are quite large and caravan suppliers have trade stands where you can pick up items at discounted prices. You can dip into there additional facilities as and when you want.

So you can make as much or as little of club membership. As for teh difference between the two clubs, Some will say one is better than the other, but that depends on your personal preferences.

We're in both. Each costs less than £1.00 a week.
Both have sites in stunning settings.
If you are touring Scotland I say both clubs are mandatory for the site selection they offer.
Also you get a monthly magazine all included in the price.

I respect your right to an opinion DD, but your public comment which could potentially damage the trading prospects of the organisation that has provided this well respected and informative internet forum and website for you to use free of charge is frankly a bit below the belt and unworthy. :(
I thought better of you than that.

We are in both clubs and are another using Mayday from CC and insurance from C&CC. We tend to use more CC sites than C&CC but possibly because there are more of them and they have a site at Stockton which we need for visiting relatives.
In practice there is not a lot between them and if it is sites you join for then being in both gives you more choice but if you do not use the sites then possibly just one is enough.

We have been members of both Clubs for over 30 years now. We find that there are parts of the country where one particular club has all the sites and the other club has none----and vice versa. So, we reckon that it certainly pays to be members of both clubs
