Whilst the exact details aren’t provided this link reads as if a vehicle being recovered was overloaded by 100 kg. IE 1.25 time the average weight of a person. Given it’s a specialist recovery company for large vehicles that’s a relatively small overload, but the company are a persistent breaker of the rules. Wonder how many caravans that head off during the summer holidays approach that degree of overload. Mea Culpa I once inadvertently overloaded a 1000kg MTPLM pop top by around 240kg, thinking it was a 1250 kg MTPLM. At least my weight spreadsheet was accurate. Had a fit when the weighbridge came up with that figure. Even took it to another weighbridge. Fortunately the tyres where commercial trailer tyres with LI that was higher than the caravan weight and the car was heavy tug.

Probably many are overloaded. We were on a site a few years ago and the was a twin axle caravan, when leaving the site towed with a VW Golf. But when packing up to go watched it being loaded. Awning, camp beds, then large plastic garden table and 4 plastic garden chairs. Then 4 Bicycles and charcoal BBQ. Hate to think how far they went with it from Cornwall.

Our first caravan was very light by modern standards, 650kg net 800 kg gross - we kept some "stuff" in it permanently but awning, clothes, food and beers were added for each trip and removed afterwards - when we came to sell it we removed all the "stuff" which I weighed ready to go in the new caravan - the "stuff" weight 175kg, exceeding the payload before we added the rest - fortunately the tyres, brakes and axle were rated at 900kg but that would have been no excuse if stopped by police or VOSA.

I used a spreadsheet after that to make sure I didn't overload.
