We arrived at Dunkerque at c9.00pm on Sunday 25 July and overnighted in the Norfolk Line carpark. Started off early morning on the Monday and drove 350 odd miles to a campsite in Dahn Germany for an overnight stop. It rained most of the day and was absolutely pouring when we arrived at Dahn. A break in the rain allowed us to pitch without getting too wet.

On Tuesday we travelled on another 300 odd miles to Camping Panorama Harras on the shores of Chiemsee in Bavaria. Rainy enroute but we stopped for 2 nights as Cary loved the lakeside location and we had a slight problem with the 'van brakes.

We were escorted by an ADAC man, sent by Red Pennant, and had these checked over at a local, car, garage, ie, they jacked up the 'van and spun the wheels!!!

The following evening, whilst out driving in the dark to get some cash from the local bank I discovered both dip beam bulbs on the Sorrento had blown - made for interesting driving but I got back safely. RP put me in touch with ADAC again who arranged for a local Kia dealer to change the bulbs - I tried but bulbs could only be changed by removing headlights as space was too tight.

The weather at Harras was mixed with some brighter periods.

On Thursday we drove on heading for Camping Bled in Slovenia. The rain was horrendous as we drove through southern Austria - the worst I had ever towed in. Still raining when we arrived in Bled. We got absolutely soaked setting up the 'van in TORRENTIAL rain. Even with the motor mover it was tight getting onto and levelling our 'van on the sloping, tree overhung pitch.

The last straw was when I discovered that there was no spare electrical point for our pitch, despite having paid for it!!! After strong words with the Reception I agreed, very reluctantly, to plug my continental EHU adaptor into a DOMESTIC socket block which was left out, in the pouring rain, under the EHU box. The staff did not seem to understand my concerns and apparently do not correlate the numbers of EHUs and campers wanting electricity but just dish out these socket blocks as necessary.

Today is a little brighter but still cloudy but better weather is promised tomorrow.

At least this site has free internet access to keep me amused until the sunshine arrives!!

Hello Tim,

Hope the rain has stopped. I've been following your postings with great interest as I did this tour in 2008 driving without a caravan. Therefore, I couldn't offer much advice about routes for towing.

After Munich we headed for the Zillertal valley towards Mayhofen, then east through the Austrian Dolomites stopping at the Krimmler water fall. Eventually, we joined the autobhan down to Karawanken.

If you are still in Slovenia a couple of places worth a visit are the Postonia Caves and, not far away, the Lipica stables where they breed (and train) the Lipisano white horses.

In Croatia - so much to see and experience - lovely country and charming people. The Plitvica lakes are not to be missed.

Hope the sun shines soon.

Thanks Douglas

Some helpful suggestions there.

The sun has shone today - VERY hot. We took the boat to Bled Island this morning and sat by the Lake this afternoon. Cary swam in the lake but I only paddled!!!

Thanks again.

Been away so only just seen your post. Sorry to hear the weather is so bad. It was quite good when we were down there in May, June. Hope it now keeps fine for you.

Glad ADAC were able to help you and glad we belong to ADAC ourselves.

Hi Snooks

The weather was sunny yesterday and VERY hot and sunny today. We did a complete walking circuit of Lake Bled, clockwise from the camp site, today with a picnic lunch just after Bled. We were a bit hot and weary, by the time we got back to the 'van. Cold showers and a quick nap helped restore us.

Regards

Tim
