Hello

I have a Ssangyong Rexton with a kerb weight of 1994 kg. I am thinking of buying Elddis Super Cyclone with a MTPLM of 1900 kg.

I know the caravan club gives a guideline of 85% of the towcar weight but I have also read that its ok to go up to 100%. I would

appreciate any advice.

Thanks

Bob

Hi Bob,

85% is a guideline for safe towing by a novice, but (assumming that you passed your driving test before the recent law changes) the legal limit for you is that dictated by the car manufacturer - this will be in your documentation.

This could easily be much more than the kerbweight of your car - but in some circumstances - it could be much less than the 85% guidelines.

You need to look in your car documentation and see what is the legal limit you can tow. But I believe the Rexton can tow up to 3500 kg - which would make for rather glacial progress with a 160 bhp engine.
