Hi everyone I have just received a request to order a new company vehicle & have the option of one of the following:

1. VW Passat 1.9 TDI Estate

2. VW Jetta 2.0 TDI Saloon

3. Audi A3 1.9 TDI 5dr

The reason for this enquiry is that i currently loan my brothers caravan on a regular basis and would now like to purchase my own (looking min 4 berth)and be able to tow with new car. Having looked around the web i cannot find anywhere that list suitable caravans per car they all go the other way cars per caravan. Does anyone have any advice/comments on these vehicles or suitable caravans.

Hi Andy,

Take a look at the WhatTowCar web-site, it was developed by two guys from the Dutch Caravan Club and is a great resource.

web-site www.whattowcar.com

But you need to look out for:

1. The database of car specifications and kerb-weights may not exactly match current specifications - you need to check with alternative sources (like the manufacturer web-site) particularly if you start choosing from the car option list

2. The ratio calculation is based on the actual ratio - rather than the UK way of comparing the car kerb-weight with the maximum laden weight of the caravan.

The advantage of the UK way is that the actual ratio is always better - and the comparison can be transferred between cars and caravans

Hi Rob,

This site seems a goldmine of knowledge thanks - only issue is it appears to base everything around you knowing what caravan you have, as i mentioned i will also be looking to purchase the caravan based on the actual vehicle i go with, could anyone recomend a base caravan to be able to compare the cars against as they seem very close on specs.

Hope this makes sense and thanks for the advise it nice to see that good spirit in alive and well in caravaning
