Overnight at Plymouth Docks

Hi folks,

We are travelling to Brittany in late August, returning in September and going/returning Plymouth/Roscoff.

We have never done this route before. After we found out last year about being able to camp out on the dockside at Caen to await the early ferry it occurred to us that it might be possible to do this in UK too, and indeed in Roscoff perhaps.

Has anyone done this recently either in Plymouth or Roscoff ??

Who do you call to arrange it, or do we just turn up and park-up for the night. ?

We are on the early morning sailings in both directions and have booked a cabin onboard the ferry so can shower and freshen up onboard in both directions. Is it safe to remain on the docks overnight? And can you tell us where the best area is to do this please ?

Kind regards

James

James,

we took the Plymouth/Roscoff ferry last year, we arrived, pulled up at the gate in lane and slept in the caravan, we didn't book or anything. When we arrived there were one or two caravans but when we got up it was quite busy. I think loading starts at about 6.00am so you will need to be ready by then.

We also booked a cabin it is much more comfortable especially if you didn't sleep particularly well or are prone to sea sickness.

We are doing the same route again this year, going at the end of july.

Just outside the ferry terminal in Roscoff there is a large carpark that you can stay in. We arrived on the 10pm ferry last year and stayed there overnight before travelling south the next morning. It's actually more like a campsite than a carpark. Full of caravans and camper vans.

It does get quite full so mind you don't get blocked in.

Hi Gill.

Thank you for your reply.

We were going to stay on a site about 30 minutes drive from the docks. Not much sense in that really as we would need to be up so early, upsetting other holidaymakers in the process, and of course not really getting the full benefit from staying on a site for just a few hours as it would be.

We will take your advice and arrive on the quayside around 8-9pm and settle down for the evening after some dinner.

Can you tell me if there are any facilities open for passengers at that time of the evening, or will we be using only our onboard facilities ??

Thanks again for your response Gill

James
