The Caravan Club used to advertise a site at Folkestone Racecourse (just off J11 M20) but it is no longer in their book. You could check with the Racecourse direct to see whether they still have a site as this would be very handy for you. We have used it previously and have been able to just pull up on grassed area without unhitching and connect to electric.

Black Horse is considerably nearer than the Bearsted site. I have used Black Horse for the past 3 years. Last year, coming from the M20, there is now a by-pass for Hawkinge. On reaching the 1st roundabout, on the A20, you take the first exit Spitfire Way and this meets up with the A260 close to the site.I hope this makes sense.

Hi Brian

This may be of use to you

We don't do the tunnel as our car is banned, LPG-powered, but we do go from Dover with Norfolk Lines.

In 2006 we had hoped to stay at Little Switzerland Campsite in Folkestone but were delayed on the terrible M25. Little Switzerland had advised that leaving early for the ferry would not be a problem. We ended up cancelling and stayed at the motorway services at Maidstone overnight. They do charge for this and the bays are quite tight but okay at a pinch.

In 2007 we booked and stayed at Little Satmar Holiday Park near Folkestone. The site caters for early morning ferry-catchers and allowed us and others to park on a grassy area which was long enough to enable us all to stay hitched-up. The staff were EXTREMELY friendly and helpful with the man trying to help us fix our new awning which had a broken frame joint.

The gates are left open and one can leave whenever one wishes. We were catching the 4.00am boat from Dover. It is quite a quiet site and so we were able to go to bed and sleep from 5.00pm onwards the night before. This meant that we were refreshed when we got to Dunkerque and were able to get in good day's driving towards our final destination in Italy.

Hope this helps. I'm all for free sleep-stops when available by the way but Dover/Folkestone doesn't seem very good for that - too busy.

Surely Blackhorse Farm is nearer to the Tunnel than Dover? I still think that is you best bet. There is parking at the Tunnel Terminal but Eurotunnel don't encourage to turn up more than two hours before you crossing.

If you are CC member look at the CL at Page Farm in the book under Hythe. This is excellent open all year and only 5 easy miles from tunnel entry. You can stay hitched and the gates are wide.

Site is well used to early departures. Very friendly owners
