Overnight stops in France

We are off to France next week and have booked our main site in the Lot. However, after reading posts on aires we have decided to make two overnight stops, one at Abbeville and the other at Salbris. I have e-mailed both sites to ask for a booking but the first site hasn't responded and the second sites e-mail bounced back. Given that this is the busiest weekend for caravanners in France do we need to make a booking or can we just turn up?

Just turn up - I can't see there being problem and in any case there are lots of sites round Abbeville providing you've got a good campsite guide.

Thanks for that. We've got the Caravan Club book which I think will be ok. We are likely to get to Abbeville by about 5.30pm at the latest, which I hope is not too late. I am trying to relax but its our first time in France with the caravan, so....

Roz, Many sites do not take bookings for a single night because they depend on passing trade and there is a whole army of caravans on the move round France. I can only speak from experience of going to France for many years, always leaving UK about 25th July, but I have never had any problem with a night halt. I have a Michelin Green book guide and there are signs every where for camp sites.

The only time I nearly came unstuck was in the Lot valley when the Tour of France had come through that day.
