We will be travelling from Peronne to Angers in the Loire Valley and the most direct route would be to travel around the PÇriphÇrique. However, travelling via Rouen would only add another 30 miles to the journey.

Has anyone had any experience of the PÇriphÇrique and would you do it again?

Hi Bev,

We have done the Paris Periphique a number of times (once on a Friday at 4.30 pm)in the middle of August!!.The traffic has always been moving be it a little slow at times.

The main thing is make sure you have a good map reader with you to warn you about lane changes well in advance. The French are not very tolerant towards other drivers.

I would sooner drive on the Paris Periphique than the M25 any time.

As before, unless you are going to Paris or surrounding area and need to use the Periferique why risk it.

You can have easy passage around it or have an absolute nightmare at times and that's without rush hour peaks.

Rouen directions is easy driving with some lovely countryside ans good stops and few hot spots, do you want take the chance of crawling through city traffic when there is a free flowing alternative. Paris is a no brainer in comparison to Rouen choices.

I'd agree with Euro - we've done the peripherique (not towing) a few times, and I wouldn't go near it again now because there are so many better alternatives, whichever direction you're heading in. Drivers on the peripherique cut you up, barge in front, sideswipe you to move over, and a variety of other pushing and shoving moves. With a car it's possible to avoid a lot of this - but much more difficult with a caravan, especially at the speed you're required to travel to keep up with the traffic flow.

If you don't take Rouen as an alternative, then the E104 Francilienne is the outer ring road, which will take you far enough around to get on to the A10, and then head to Angers - and it's far easier than the peripherique.

I agree with all of the comments. Do not rely on satnav on the Peripherique because much of it is in deep cuttings and tunnels, causing serious signal disturbance, follwoed by misdirection. They will not tolerate those who find themselves in the wrong lane. With a good map reader, it is easily 'doable' but not very relaxing.

We went around the peripherique during rush hour on 18th June on the way to Chateau des Marais - exciting to say the least, but watch out for camakazie motorbikes!

IMO its worse than the m25 - traffic moves but lanes are narrow and there are scooters and bikes weaving in an out of lanes - I was on edge just waiting for one to ping the van -

Wouldnt attempt it without a satnav - would recommend Rouen route
