Paris to Spain

Hi, could anyone tell me by their experience which is the best route from the Paris area down to Cambrils, Salou. I will get a route from AA and Mappy but like to hear of people's experiences with routes. Thanks in advance, Helen.

We think the best route is autoroute to Senlis, off towards Ermenonville, down towards Paris and around the N104 (Francilienne) then Nemours, Nevers, Moulins, Grannat, (N roads, then on the junction to Clermont Ferrand) then the A75 over the Millau viaduct toward Montpellier, then take the Beziers turn off and head down the (whatever it's called) to Narbonne, and at Narbonne Sud take the N road toward Perpignan and into Spain. In Spain you can choose autoroute or national road and there's not much to choose between them in terms of speed.

Cambrils Park is lovely - we've just come back!!! WE did this route both up and down and had no problems either way. On the way back we did Cambrils to La Grange Fort (just south of Clermont Ferrand, then La Grange Fort to Calais) in two days (OK long ones, but we were welcomed at Chateau du Ganspette with a lovely pitch, and a meal at 9.30 in the evening! Fantastic end to our holiday.

Yes that should be the best and easyest route, particularly if you were to stay on the autoroute at Narbonne all the way to Salou. The Spanish part is one of the cheaper paying roads and I do think saves a lot of time over the coast road.

If you like mountains and quiet Spanish roads, the other way would be Orleans, Limoges, Toulouse, Andorra or the tunnel and then the road which ends up at the coast at Salou. The A20/N20 in France has been much improved and has quite a lot of free parts, same as south of Clermont Ferrand.

Hi Val, thanks for that. We will be leaving on 21st July and plan to get to Cambrils on the 23rd. The 1st night we are stopping at Les 3 Vents, Paris and then stopping somewhere the next night - not sure what site yet. We are returning in 2 days like you. Do you remember how long it took you to get to your first stop. Is Chateau du Ganspette on the motorway. Hope to hear from you soon, Helen.
