parking caravan in communal area

When I tried to get a quote for caravan, it came down to storage location. In my home, there is no driveway but a allocated parking in a communal area. The allocated one is not in front of my house. My son has a private parking space in front of his house. Although it is in the boundary of the property, but adjacent to communal parking area. An insurance company doesn't thinks it is driveway. I see parking on driveway is minimum requirement for parking in a residential address. I wonder if anyone has same situation, and which insurance providers cover this sort of parking.

Personally I wouldn't store a van in either of those locations. Sounds far to accessable to low life's.
You'd be better off looking for secure storage in your area.

First thing to check is the terms & conditions of the communal parking area - caravans may not be allowed - typical car parking spaces (2.4 x 4.8) are inadequate to put a caravan.

I have thought about a secure storage, it is hard to get one in Berkshire or near areas. some a bit far places ask for 30+ quids/week.

You could try Midlands Farm near Bordon. 01428 712201. They do have a waiting list but it’s quick. CASSOA approved.

I tried one near Alton, 30£/week, another one near Reading 32.5£/week. They are not in list of CaSSOA sites. CaSSOA sites are always full in southeast.

Don’t worry about it not being Cassoa ifit has decent security. Cassoa is a trade body that gives storage owners extra advertising, but they have to pay to join. The owner of our high security but non Cassoa site said it wasn’t worth it as his site is nearly always full. You may gets cheaper insurance quote if it is Cassoabut in our case there was not a lot in it.

Do a google searth and carefully check the maps. We fell on a site near to us which does not come up but we can see it on the map. We took the farm name and did a further search and found it. Farm storage can be a lot less and you can often use the van onsite during the camping season.

Thank you for your info. This is like a chicken and egg situation for a caravan beginner with no storage. It is hard to get a storage immediately when a loved caravan is available, same in other way. Probably, better to buy a caravan with storage, or book a far and budget storage in advance, then change storage later

If there is an area you like to go often, look around that area for storage as many do this. Also lots of sites have storage and they will pull it out onto a pitch for you and then put back into storage when you leave. You can also take of the site for use elsewhere and then return it after holiday.

The two large storage sites near us have waiting lists for pitches as my friend was looking to change from his present motorhome storage. One option is that the two Clubs have some storage areas available to members , and Forest Holidays have some sites with storage areas.

Ultimately if you want to insure the caravan, then you will need to heed the terms and conditions of the policy. Unfortunately that might limit your options.

Owning a caravan is no longer a super cheap way of holidaying.....😔

I have contacted towergate, CaSSOA and caravanguard, they have simply family/friend address as storage site on their web site. When I talked and showed them the address in Google sat map on phone, after talking to their manager, they rejected covering for being in communal area parking. Just called Lifesure, they told me it is okay whether it is communal area or not. Has anyone have Lifesure experience?

The value of an insurer cannot be judged by how easy a policy is to set up or how little it costs, the true value is how they deal with claims. Low cost insurance usually means they don't like paying out.

Absolutely agree, where can I get their credit scores?

Which one was it that you talked to and rejected the communal area.

That’s a pretty comprehensive rejection. What do Lifesure quote and are there many conditions imposed on you. They are brokers and on Trust Pilot don’t get particularly good reviews

premium is reasonable, there are no special restrictions, even like kerb weight. I attached a wording doc.
