When we first visited Brean beach to go onto the beach cost £2.50. Over the years the cost increased. Last year it was £4.50, but this year it is £8 for the day or £4 if after 2pm. However in Weston Super Mare it is now £14 or £7 half day! BB or not you still pay although a reduced rate. Normally either beach is very busy, but not over the past week. Today at about 4pm not many people on the beach. Talk about killing the goose that lays the golden egg!

My wife and I were in the south of France in 2019, we thought it would be nice to go to Monaco for the day, so off we set. Upon arrival I drove to the harbour/marina and managed to park in the underground car park at La Rascasse, the very same as the “Rascasse Corner”

So parked up, took the ticket and had a very lovely day in Monaco, imagining Ayrton Senna taking Loews Corner. We had spent around six hours before returning, thinking how much the parking is going to cost. Right on the Marina in Monaco!

So, long story short……..Half of what it cost us to park in Exeter two weeks later……for HALF the time!

RIP of Britain at its best.

PS: Monaco was amazing!

Next time drive right to the end of the road and park in the pay and display car park on the right (close to the cafe). It's much cheaper than the beach car parks and you can pay for an hour or two rather than the whole day.

I don't go into my local town to shop or go to cafes or the cinema or pubs except on saturdays when it's free and they wonder why town centres are dying

Our little town is still free parking.
Northumberland Council run buy a timer ticket card for £1.00 .A bit like a disability card. Park in all their car parks and roads up to the specified times anytime throughout the year.

In most cases the Blue Badge timer card can be used as an alternative to local timer cards.

Very true that is why most of those bays were full. Annoying the cheaper marked out bays they need the money to maintain road, painting etc. On the beach there is zero maintenance. We don't mind paying a reasonable charge, but a jump from £4.50 to £14 is over the top and originally we thought £4.50 for 10 minutes or all day was steep. We only spend about 30 minutes on the beach giving the dogs a good run around. Never ever paid to park by the beach in France or Spain!

We do have a BB and get reduced charges however we have noticed a new rick for BB holders in that you need to pay for the first hour and then the additional hour is free. Where we live no issue as parking is free even in designated car parks and the nearest town is a haven for Brummies on the weekend. In the designated car parks, cost of parking is very reasonable.

Last year, my wife and I had a three week road trip in the US, taking in Montana, Wyoming, Idaho, Utah, Arizona, Nevada and just into California, over 2000 miles.

I have no idea how many par parks we used, but it would have been dozens……..We never paid once to park.

Same in France.

RIP off Britain!

If only Britain had the same land area as France or USA - or much smaller population to give the same density.

Yes, it would make for an all round better quality of life, for sure. Wyoming, considerably larger than the U.K., less than 600,000 population………SPACE!
