Passat 2.0TDI 140 Estate (DSG or manual?)

Looking at changing my car to a Passat estate 2.0 TDI 140.

Most used cars seem to have the DSG gearbox and although the tow weights are the same I am unsure whether it will be as good as the manual gearbox for towing. Any comments will be gratefully received>

Andrew, I tow a 1500 kg. 'van with a Touran 140 DSG, same engine and gearbox, and I find it excellent, both towing and solo. When solo, I generally leave it in auto, but when towing, it's about 50/50, as I sometimes prefer to select the gearchange myself, depending on the traffic.

Eddie, thanks for the advice

We also have the 2.0 140 dsg setup and now after 22000 miles i still have not used the sport or manuel bit and nearly always in cruise control find it a dream pulling 1350 klg.

Andrew,

I tow with a 2007 Passat 2.0 TDI with a DSG box, albeit the 170 bhp one.

It is a dream to tow with (it is also superb solo). I stay in fuly auto mode 99% of the time, except when I want/need a bit more engine breaking.

Go for it, no hesitation 🙂
