Passport Renewals

Hi All

As anyone done an onlline passport renewal ??

I noticed you have to pay upfront ? Not completed it yet is it you have to print off then post in?

tahnaks

Even with the old paper forms you had to pay with your form when submitted. So I don’t understand what you mean. Surely the instructions for the online form detail what to do? They are logically described step by step. Here’s the link to the U.K. Gov application process. It’s all detailed step by step.

Just be absolutely certain you are on the .gov site other sites have been known to charge the full fee just to submit the form you then are asked to pay for your passport
The official site does work and has been in use for a number of years

I used the site some years ago and found it surprisingly easy (Given the lamentable history of most Gov. IT projects I had feared the worst. I seem to remember that you had to confirm that the photo on your previous passport was still a 'good likeness' or you had to submit another, which probably means having to do it on paper and use post.

I think that now the Passport Agency and DVLA can swop likenesses and as you say you just confirm that it still looks like you.

The most difficult thing is getting the digital image uploaded to the dot gov website - plenty of natural light prevents shadowing which is totally unacceptable - everything else for me was a dawdle notwithstanding the considerable cost for renewal - just be patient and things will be fine - there is no question of confirming likeness you merely take an image of your upper body using your mobile telephone or digital camera and upload it to the site

There is no requirement to print anything off then post - the renewal application is done electronically via the dot gov website - you are required to answer all the relevant questions and you have to upload a digital image of yourself satisfying the conditions required - you then pay the fee by debit or credit card return your old passport to the address provided quoting the application reference generated for you

At the risk of being called "Fred Drift", my passport is due for renewal in June next year after the likely Brexit. Does anyone know how far in advance 'British' passports will be issued?

Sorry can’t help on that however I heard a rumour that the old style visitor passport may be resurrected for brits visiting the continent

Don’t forget you may have to duct tape over the LHS of your number plate as Monsiuer Barnier won't want us showing GB amidst the EU stars.
TIC 🙂

Renewed passports are valid for 10 years.
