I started a thread about caravanners saying "do'nt know its on the back" when towing, of course its just an expression as LB put itin his answer. Now we have Imegrants and oversea workers and it is quite intresting reading the comments ,howeverits the remarks made about the " £10 an hour and semi-skilled/skilled" that i wish to comment on .Speaking to members of my family on the male side and regarding are they skilled, or as a contributer say's they are really only semiskilled if i read it right, thejobs they do are as follows.
Ceiling fitter .(does commercial properties and large contract with well known TV station)
Kitchen fitter.(City & guils joiner ,electrical, gas, plumbing papers)
Cabinet maker.( C/G ,does high class reproduction furniture and has done a 40+ dining table and chairs for a member of the royal family in the middle east/also ex lecturer at the London college of Furniture).
Finacial advisor.(with all the necessary certificates).
Refridgeration/air condioner engineer(designs plant and cercuits, with many qualifications for multi millionn company)
Handy man.(works only by recomendations, has trouble fitting the work in as it interfears with his 3 cruises a year with P&O and other holidays).
Now we come to the £10 per hour, oh by the way we live in the South East. All have more or less said that for £ 10 an hour its not worh getting out of bed.
Now the semi/skilled bit, if we are/was not skilled i do not know the defini
tion of the word, of coarse the Handy man is what you call semi but this year he and his partner have sailed to India, now on a Med trip and in July off to another)not bad for a semi i think.
