hi,

we've been looking at purchasing 4007 and they got a good review in the Caravan Club mag last month (they were compaired against outlander, c-crosser & 4007)

We are seriously considering the Peugeot 4007 as our towcar. I had the pleasure of trying one at the International Caravan & Motorcaravan show last year. I had at least a 3/4 drive with a caravan on the hook, and was allowed to take it on a near by dual carrageway at 60mph. Very impressed indeed. Admittedly it was a light weight caravan by Bailey, but it performed lovely.

There is a slight problem with the dual mass flywheels fitted to the Mitsubishi/Peugeot/Citroen incarnation of this vehicle. Apparently the ratio of the 1st & 2nd is such that you can not pull away in those gears without slipping the clutch, when towing a caravan. The web site www.honestjohn.co.uk has reviews of the cars. Citroen and Peugeot have just released a automatic version of the cars, fitted with a dual clutch system. The great thing about these automatics is that they do not affect the fuel consumption in any way.

Yvonne and betterhalf,

I forgot to mention,

If you are going to the International Caravan & Motorhome show at the NEC in October, you can try out the Peugeot 4007 towing a caravan. Camping & Caravanning Club will have their "Try a Tow" facility there again. It costs you nothing, other than Peugeot UK making a courtesy telephone to you at a later date. If you go and want the experience, remember to take both parts of your driving licence.

Stick to the Outlander 2.2 engine far more atractive than the 4007 and will probibly be more reliable they were designed by Mitsubushi in conjuction with Citroen & Peugeot. If not the Outlander the Citroen looks better than the 4007, but in comes down to your choice all have had good write ups the Outlander and the Citroen by CC recently .

I used to tow with a Pug 406 with 2.2lt diesel. Worked a dream with van. Switched to 4007 12 months back and can say it is really good.

Outlander was (to start) only being offered with old VW 2lt although I believe it now comes with 2.2lt - but whose I do not know.

We should always remember that underneath the bodyshell these vehicles are all going to be pretty much the same. So it may well be which switches, seats etc one prefers.

the outlander only comes with the french 2.2 in the espensive diamond edition, however unlike its french counterparts i would expect the electrics on the outlander to last longer that the dealers driveway

Riff Raff,

Think you are a bit lopsided with your assumption. The 3 variants are all made at the Mitsubishi factory using only Mitsubishi parts. The Peugeot and Citroen redsigned the front and rear end to suit their styling. Its the same vehicle internally and under the skin. The Outlander with the 2.2 HDi engine is the Diamond top of the range model, the remainder get the 2.0 VW.

We've not long purchased used 4007 and love it great to drive around in day to day & you forget your driving diesel. (old car was shogun sport 2.5td)

Was a bit unsure how it would tow our twin axle abbey but there was no need to worry. Tow in 4 wheel drive with no problems what so ever and didn't use half as much fuel as the shogun when towing. Glad we made the move and hooking up is easy with the reversing cameras almost a one man job now.

We have just done a deal to change our Zafira for a 4007.

It drove really well and the ride was pretty good considering it had optional 19" wheels. The mid range pull is excellent for such a heavy car.

As a bonus, the ex Peugeot UK car already has a twin electric removable towbar fitted!!!
