Has anyone got experience towing with a Peugeot 406 HDI 110 bhp. I am looking to tow a caravan with an MTPLM of 1400kg and am wanting to know if this car will be up to the job, Your opinions and experiences would be greatly appreciated! Many thanks!!1

Hi Francis

Can't help you with the 110bhp version, which I think is the 2 litre engine, but I have the 2.2 ltr which is one of the best towcars I have ever had. I pull a van of a similar weight to yours and get between 28 and 33mpg on motorways / dual carriageways and try to aim at about 55mph when it will comfortably tow in 5th gear, (2000 revs = max torque)

Sorry for the delay in replying - just seen your post.

I tow a Swift Charisma which I think has a MTPLM of 1365kg with my 110bhp 406. It would tow a 1400kg van without complaint, however you will be near to 100% of the cars kerbweight with a van that heavy. I think that the kerbweight of my car is 1430kg unless yours is automatic it will be a similar weight.

I've just sold my 406 HDi 110 estate. This was my 5th 406 in a row used as a towcar and they were all brilliant.

I found that it was even better after I had chipped it, try Mr Hoot. Or my old plug-in module is for sale if you are interested. However I sold mine because of a change of 'van. 1400 kg really is a bit too heavy, the kerbweight is 1425 kg ( I think ) so I took the view that I ought to change.

Hi Les, just read your letter about the Peugeot Estate 406 2.0 ltr hdi 110 bhp.my son has just bought one after he had towed his van on holiday with my Citroen Xantia 2.0 Ltr. hdi 110 bhp which is the best tow car I have had and I have been towing since the 1960s, he could stay in 5th gear most of the time but he just cant do that with the Peugeot, could you perhaps advice us where to go from here. Thanks Allan
