Disel, you look a supper dog. I am keeping everything crossed that you do well in your area (working dog?) of the competition.
Sorry to hear you are so nervous Lisa. Understandable though. Is this the first time you have shown at Crufts? My friend is showing 2 Cairn Terriers in the terrier class. She has shown for a long time all over the country and she still admits to nerves! However, when the adrenaline pumps in you will be absolutely fine and, most likely, forget what is going on around you because you will be fixated on how Diesel is coping.

Thanks for your kind comments. We're in terriers on Saturday so your friend will be there too.
He's my first SBT and my first show dog. He qualified for Crufts at his second championship show when he was eight months old. We have been travelling around the country too going to shows!
There's a record entry for SBT this year - 429 dogs/bitches entered. The classes will be enormous. It's quite an achievement to qualify for Crufts as there are some breeders (especially in my breed) who have been showing for years and never qualified.
Good luck to your friend too. Diesel has to have a bath tonight and a manicure and a tail trim. He doesn't like any of that!
We're stopping 14 miles away from the NEC which should hopefully relieve some of the stress.

Have you shown at the NEC before? If not you will find the parking a nightmare - lots of spaces but some are seriously distanced from the main buildings. Brenda, my friend, was parked so far away last year that they were glad they had taken a trolley and travelling cages with them. I think they had a fair trek to the showing halls, but their dogs were fresh on arrival.
As I said, she is showing 2 Cairn Terriers (they are the same size as Westies but they can be various colours from wheaten to dark brindle (not black or white - that is a sin!). I purcahsed Maisie from her as a puppy.
I do not show Maisie as she is just a well loved little dog who, I might add, rules the roost. However, I have a picture of her great great grandfather (in the Pet Owners Guide to the Cairn by Ron & Brenda Birch - both fanatic breeders and judges) who actually took 1st Prize in the Terrier Class!
I bet you will have a fantastic time and enjoy every moment.

We use to show our Belgian Shepherd there, she was one of the few dogs that actually enjoyed Crufts.

Plotter, we're stopping at Chapel Lane. I've washed the caravan at lunch time. We were coming back on Monday but got to come back on Sunday now as my daughter has an exam on Monday!
Another bit of goss - my daughter has just got a Saturday job at one of the top hairdressing salons in Notts. Not very PC but the owner who interviewed her said 'you're exactly the type of girl we want in our salons, you are absolutely beautiful and look like a model'.
Apparently, they get footballers and celebrities in their salons so hopefully when she gets older (if she's still there) she might meet a rich man and give me and her dad some money rather than the other way round all the time........

She might get rich and give you some money,what colour is the sky on your planet!I have been hoping for the same for years but have now given up.Chapel Lane is good I thought you might have stopped at the site at Meriden as it is only 5 minutes to the NEC.Good luck at the show,as a point of interest my neighbours three quarter staffie poor devil only has three legs.

Are these the dogs that are prone to cracking for no apparent reason and attacking children and adults? It certainly looks evil. Puts me in mind of a crocodile with that massive mouth. I would not trust these types of dogs as far as I could throw them.

Lisa,my neighbour as I say has the two Staffies one with only three legs (dont know how it came about)they are well behaved which is perhaps contrary to some views.We have a river at the bottom of our garden and have a 'pet swan'who adopted us 6 years ago when its partner was swept away in floods,the staffies come along and neither bother with the other even though the swan would be a sitting duck (if you will excuse the pun)
A three legged demon dog eh, it probably ate it off itself. Just be careful Lisa, you never know when it will snap and before you know it you will be needing a new face. My Daughter was at the play park last summer when she spotted one of these and had to go over to pet it. It's owner kept saying "She's great with kids, they call them the nanny dog". All the time I had my hand between my Daughter and the dog when all of a sudden it stood up and tried to get to her face as if to sniff her, but this dog was not wagging it's tale. I lifted her quickly out of the way and it took a snap at her. There is something just not right with the make up of these dogs brains. They need to castrate them all and let the breed die off. Then there will be no more cases of attacks on humans. But until then, people in there proximity will always be in danger from them.
Good luck Diesel. Make sure that Lisa knows when to stay and when to heel. If she does well, don't forget to give her a little treat, but whatever you do, don't let her **** a leg at the judges.

Plotter, it's funny you should mention the dog being friendly with a swan. Diesel has made friends with a wood pigeon which seems to like our garden (not as glamorous as a swan though)! LOL It keeps perching on the rose arches and stolling around the garden, so we've been feeding it. It's not bothered about either of the dogs.
