Try not to do anything but wash them with water as its far too easy to create micro scratching which is very evident in the sun.

To wash use bucket of clean water and a face flannel sized "micro fibre" cloth [Tescos auto section].

Drench the cloth and make a single stroke across the window copiously flooded with water. Then thoroughly workout the minute amount of dust and grit the cloth picks up by rinsing it in the bucket. Then repeat this single stroke and rinse until window is "washed" all over. Then wring out the micro cloth and using it as a chamois dry off the window. Best use a fresh bucket full of water for each window. You can throw the "old" water over to wet the next window.

Don't use that microfibre cloth for any other task, air dry it and keep it in a plastic container/bag just for your windows.

The vital point is to work with things as clean as possible as even airborne dust will readily scratch your windows if wiped over the surface.

Using this technique and avoiding hedges when towing it is possible to keep windows as clear as new for years.

Any one have any experience of using the product that robert is referring to on ebay?

I've had a look at the item plus did a google search for info. It's called Greygates Plastic Polish and does receive some good reviews from differing sources. It's also available cheaper than the price on ebay.

Does appear effective in removing scratches.
