Poole overnight parking

Travelling Poole to Cherbourg at the beginning of April. According to Brittany website it is possible to overnight at the Port for £5.00. Has anyone done this? Is it satisfactory? We will have a dog with us so will need to do the obligatory walks.
 
We stop there regularly. Pull onto the quay at about 7.30. PM.
Legs down, glass of wine and sleep!
Brittany ferries man knocks on door at about 6.00/ 6.30. Giving you about half hours notice of time to move.
Then legs up and away we go!
Never been charged yet, as you pay at. The cafe and it is never open when we are there!
