Porch awnings are not great for actually sleeping in, as unlike a full awning, only the top is in the caravans awning rail leaving the sides unsealed. This makes porch awnings rather drafty.

We bought a Khyam Motorhome Excelsior which is predominately sold to the motorhome market but is also suitable for caravans.

There is a joining section of about 1m depth and then the main part of the awning is 3m x 3m. The main section can be closed off from the joining section so it is both wind and waterproof and a bedroom inner can be bought but I just adapted a normal awning inner. It erects in 5 min and then just has to be pegged out. There is another model with a sleeping annexe.

It has withstood high winds and is of good quality. Look at Khyam's website.

I purchased a porch awning which as previously statedis very drafty as the awning only fits on the top awning rail. I purchased a Starcamp so that it was quick and easy to put up on short breaks.

I have just purchased a Dorema full size awning with aluminium poles. It takes me and my wife less time erecting the full size awning that it does the porch awning. I cannot see me ever using the porch awning again.
