Hi all

I have just ordered a Bailey senator series 6 wyoming now i will tow with a LWB Shogun but i did notice that someone said that this car has to be in 4WD when towing why is this? also i am thinking of fitting move control for all 4 wheels is it a good thing bearing in mind that its a big van and i last towed a small sprite with a 2 litre cortina when 2 litres was very powerful i think the value of both would be about £600 but its a bit more than that now so any tips would be welcome

lastly any ideas on insurance

Hi Donald

This all depends on how old your Shogun is. I tow with an ancient Mk 2 swb Pajero ( Import Shogun) and unless I am climbing a mountain or moving off from a wet or muddy pitch I never use 4wd. I think that on newer models the handbook states that 4wd should be used when towing.

I might also add that mine is an auto gearbox and all that I do is switch the overdrive off if travelling up long motorway inclines when the engine revolutions start to drop.

A really good website where somebody will give you the definitive answer is http/www.pocuk.co.uk

This is the website of the Pajero Owners Club and on their technical forum, which is completely free to use, are both Shogun and Pajero techies.

Donald,

I have towed with both types of Shogun the old "mk11" and currently with the later GDI. If your shogun is the new shape, petrol or diesel manual or Auto, quite simply you MUST tow in 4WD. It tells you this in the handbook and warns you on a notice in the car on the drivers door capping.

Without getting technical, it's electronic mumbo jumbo stuff, you run the risk of wrecking the transmission if you ignore the warning.

As has been said the older models did not have this requirement and on a positive note I have not seen any plummeting of fuel consumption or tyre wear and I put on more miles towing than normal use with mine.
