Powrtouch Mover Woes

So, after reading some excellent advice on this forum regarding the importance of regularly lubricating the sliding mechanism on motor movers I visited the van in storeage armed with my white grease and removed the covers to reveal the workings. Being aware that there is a real danger that the plastic lugs might snap off when the covers are pulled off from their mountings I 'very carefully' eased the covers off their mountings only to have virtually all the plastic lugs snap off resuting in me spending £50 on a new set of covers. Really anoying as I was aware of the possibility of damaging the lugs and also I couldn't have been any more gentle / careful.
So, apart from applying plenty of grease on the lugs and around the holes into which they fit on the new set when I fit them, is there any way of not snapping the lugs off when I remove them next year?
Also, I believe the is a screw on the new set I've ordered that's a mild anti-theft device but I'm not sure how that works as I dont have a threaded hole for it to screw into on the mover butI'm assured it will fit.

There is a You Tube video of a man stripping the Powertouch Movers, from memory I think you have a retaining bolt that has to be partly undone and that releases a tapered fitting that releases the covers without breaking them

Woodsieboy I think thats on a later model (just done a Freedom with a retaining screw which spreads the lug out to retain the cover, but come across some which just clip on , If I had snapped the lugs off I would consider either threading a long tie wrap through the hole and around the frame to retain the cover or fitting a captive nut into the frame or a rivet nut and then using a machine screw to hold the cover in place

I had a problem with the lugs breaking off and repaired them by fitting large plastic rawlplugs held on with a screw through the case. Worked very well for a number of years

Yeah thanks that. After the lugs snapped off I did refit them and the covers still appeared to be a decent fit but an arrival at Eye Kettleby Lakes nr Melton Mowbry I notoced that I'd lost one (nearside) enroute so needed to replace the pair.
Anyway, they've arrived from Powrtouch and the lugs are a completely new design and look a lot sturdier so I'm expecting to be able to remove and replace without any further issues. Time will tell. Thanks
