Hello I am having a problem with my motor mover, basically it is driving on one side only, recently had service on caravan and was told my battery wasn't big enough (80aph) so got a new one(120aph) and still the same. Does anyone know what the voltage should be at motors as only getting 6v ( should it be 12v ??) not sure if they have brushes which might need replacing or whether motor is u/s

I've only an 80Ah battery and my powrtouch mover works fine and in the past I've use old 65Ah car batteries with a mover without issues.
You should have 12-13v at the mover motors - so there could loose connections or a fault with the battery charging - so check the voltage at the leisure battery with the mains EHU disconnected.

The battery "size", its capacity Ah is not directly the problem, its the current it can provide.
Tests off load , that is with rollers not engaged.
Try all buttons that drive the suspect motor. That way it indicates if a handset or elsewhere problem.
Yes the motors have brushes, but if the motor is only getting 6 volts they are not the main problem.
Getting 6 volts hints strongly at a poor connection problem.
Don't be tempted to try the mover with the EHU connected, thay could give you more problems
Try the fault finder tests here LINK for your unit, but I suspect it is the wiring and or connection from the controller to the motor from the 6 volt statement.

Other than the initial power up an 80 ah battery should still be capable of working the mover. That said said I too have a 120 ah.

You say your mover is driving on one side. Is it the left or right side or is it alternating between the two?
Thanks for replying all , I will have to do some investigating trying to narrow it down where the issue is but all these points I will try

It's possible that one of the motors has died. We had that issue (fortunately within warranty) when we arrived home after a trip. We contacted Truma (Powrtouch) who went through some diagnostics with us, which confirmed that one of the motors had died. They organised a replacement. If you are out of warranty I think you need to get someone to check the unit to see if it is u/s, you can easily get a replacement.

You have to appreciate that as we cannot see or touch or test the various components remotely, we are broadly clutching at straws, and at best, any diagnosis we come up with can only be tentative.
I suspect your best choice of action will be to talk to the mover manufacturer, who may have knowledge of such faults. Then if necessary find an approved mover fitter who can attend the caravan to diagnose and fix the problem.

Personally I'd use a meter to see if any power is reaching the motor thus narrowing the problem down to either the unit, the wiring or the motor. Voltmeters can be picked up cheaply from Screwfix etc. Checking for power at the motor connections on the unit then at the end of the cables where they meet the motors will start to give an idea of where the problem is.
I appreciate it all boils down to how "handy" you are but if the problem lies in the unit it would allow you to remove it and send it away for repair if possible.
