pros + cons of the kia sedona for towing

hi has anyone towed or is towing with the kia sedona?

if so is there any advantages disadvantages with this car?

ie manual or auto wich is better ive been to look at a few but thought id ask for any input from anyone who may have one

Hi Grham, We bought our Sedona in Feb, its 54 plate SE, we tow an Avondale Dart coming out at about 1250kgs loaded. I must say it tows well and is easy to drive. We went for a manual diesel on a 54 plate in good condition with 40K on the clock.Tow bar was

We have a kia sedona. Tows a Swift challenger 490 with no problem, hardly know its there. Huge amounts of space for family, does seat 7 adults in comfort. Also huge amounts of space without third row of seats, we moved a double bed recently. Downside is solo driving. MPG not wonderful, neil does well to get 40. Its wide so parking in bays can be very tight. The sliding doors help though. The seats don't fold into the floor like a zafira, you have to take them out and stick them in the garage, and by gum they are heavy. On the up side you get a lot for your money.

In order to get 40 i have to say that i'll never challenege Lewis Hamilton !, I do a 70 mile round trip to work each day in it and stick to 50-60 so that helps.

Also i'm told emissions on automatic are higher and wear on front tyres is worse on auto matics and don't expect more than 12-13k on manual any way.

Have had back 4 seats out this weekend to do a car boot and its huge, yes they are heavy to lift but easy to remove and they are on little wheels so no need to carry them far.

Best thing we ever did, just paying it off is the hard part as well as the

hi graham, we had a new 07 sedona. loved it does drink the fuel the service from the dealer isnt great mine was in there for 5 weeks because they didnt belive it had a problem.

great towcar would pull a house.

i now have a hyundai santa fe cdx 7 sister company to kia a far better customer service than kia and i cat fault them.

Had an 07 auto for 8 months now. 15500 on the clock so far. Tow a Senator Wyoming. No problems so far. Front tyres have easily got another 5k in them, rears anything upto 10.

SMS, i'm inetested to know what presure you run the tyres at and what make they are to get that sort or mileage out of the front set. Are they still 15's

We bought a diesel 08 Sedona in March this year. It tows our 1800kg van amazingly well, so much better than our last MPV, it feels really solid and well planted. It seats all the family in total comfort and is a really flexible workhorse.

On the downside it drinks like a judge, responds to low revs like the QEII and needs a really big parking space. Having said that we love it.

Just had a look. They are "Turanza" r17's. Were supplied on the new vehicle. I run at the reccomended pressure of 35psi.

We have a club member with one. He says it's great on dry roads, but suffers from wheel spin in the wet on hill starts. Its also the only outfit I've towed on and off wet sites twice this year so far.

Apparently, it can be an expensive job when, not if, the injector pump fails.

On his evidence, it would not be my choice of towcar, but then I've used only Range Rovers for many years now.

I agree there is more than sufficient torque to spin the front wheels under adverse conditions - a four wheel drive version would be better still.

Funnily enough, I used to have a Range Rover and the fuel pump went twice. I'm not a fan of Range rover build quality. Don't have sufficient miles on the Sedona to know yet if this will be a problem.

Have towed with a 52 plate Sedona (diesel manual)since March 2003 first with a Lunar Lexon EB and then with Bailey Senator Arizona and have been very pleased. Cant quote mpg as can not afford to top up tank at end of holidays to get accurate figures. Can cruise at 60 on motorways without difficulty in most reasonable weather conditions.

As already mentioned it is almost as good as a van for moving furniture etc with the second and third row of seats removed. Have had minor irritation in past year with engine dying on me in some situations but this seems to be related to fuel quality as nearest main dealer was unable to solve problem and it largely disappeared for months.

My two sons laughed at me when I purchased the Sedona but the older one has been keen enough to borrow it and the caravan to take his family on holiday and the younger one is quick enough to ask me to move furniture in it.

Dear All,

We've done around 14k miles in our 57-plate diesel manual on the mag, of which at least a few thousand have been towing - it's towed to Northern Ireland, Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Somerset and Kent since December and I've got to say that we've got on really well with it. The seats are very heavy and tricky to remove when you want to open up the boot space, it's not the most involving drive and you need to drive like a saint to get high thirties at motorway speeds but it's great value, has loads of kit and the weight means it can tow pretty much anything.

well after reading everyones responses to my question we have decided to bite the bullet and have been to kia and have put a deposit on a brandnew sedona! its the diesel LS model so we get the privacy glass and electric rear doors as standard just have to be patient now till it arrives lol

Like gavel Ive had 2 sedonas but had no problems at all,at the moment I have a 1900kg caravan which it pulls with relative ease,we have just got back from a tour of germany and france with a friend who has a cherokee 2.5 pulling an ace 4 berth a lightweight compared to mine,he was getting 18 mpg and mine was about 28 mpg and solo both of mine averaged 42 mpg which is not bad for something that weighes in at 2.2 tonnes.But unless you are going to tow a heavy van and are looking for an alternative to a 4x4,there are lighter vehicles like the galaxy for lighter caravan.
