Sorry if this seems a silly question or has been asked before. I have just bought a new 2008 model Sprite Major 5, which is my very first caravan. I am wanting to install a car radio cd player. I have found all the ISO leads and speaker leads and wired them up to the player. The cd works fine. The problem is I can't seem to locate the ariel lead which I thought would be located in the same place as the iso leads etc, i.e. in one of the overhead lockers. Does the caravan come pre wired with an ariel lead or do I need to install one. If I need to install one what type should I use and how do I go about installing it. The caravan does have a built in TV ariel if that helps.

Many thanks,

Mark

You can use the Status TV aerial for the radio but its only good for FM

If you want to use AM them an aerial on the side is needed

I prefer the mast type intended for screen pillar mounting as I've picked up interference via the 12V booster on the other type(small, black fold out!)

we take a digi box and listen to the radio through the tv.

only use the cd player to play cds.

if your ariel psu is a status type. as johng says there is a spare socket marked fm, run a coax fron this to the cd player.

I would fix it outside as near to the radio as possible to keep the coax short

I always drill and fix with some sealant under the fitting

You want it to come inside a wall cupboard but not get in the way of any awning

I appreciate RAY saying don't drill and if your not happy with that then don't

I never drill my vans except for the access door under the bed,the roof sat dish, the external power point, rear view camera, the Omnistor Awning and the side marker lights but then I like drilling!!

Hello Deli Dave . Why dont you use a table top aerial for am reception while you are abroad as you might go and drill the van for a one off.

Plus there aint much on AM anyway, but if you are going to Holland then use the status aerial as there are loads of FM station s all playing great music.

Regards Sir Roger

If you drill or cut holes in the van then no manufacturer can be expected to give a warranty on your work but drilling a hole shouldn't invalidate the warranty on the rest of the van

You just have to make sure that you use the correct sealant and do a good job !

I have in the past watched motor racing on German TV with the sound on AM Radio 5 but really you don't use the AM(or FM!) a lot especially with Sky TV !!

HI.I HAVE FITTED SEVERAL AERIALS ON THE OUT SIDE. FIT IT ON OFFSIDE.???USE THE FOLDUP TYPE. IF YOU HAVE TO FIT ON THE NEARSIDE THEN GO FOR THE FOLD UP BECAUSE THE ARIAL WILL GO HORIZONTAL. DRILL A PILOT HOLE FIRST FROM INSIDE THEN ENLARGE FOR THE WIRES AERIAL MADE BY RING.

IF A PROBLEM GIVE ME A RING. 01873 853826

REGARDS

TONY
