Hi all,

I've recently traded in my very trustworthy 5yr old Mitsubishi Shogun for an 18mth old Range Rover Sport 2.7 TDV6 HSE.

Do any forum members have any comments, good or bad,on this 4x4.

Thankyou.

Just that if my previous experience with ANY of the Land Rover products remains consistent then you will wish you had kept the Mitsubishi.

Range Rover:- Overated, Overpriced and Ultimately unreliable.

As Nat King Cole once sang, " There may be trouble ahead"

I hope that i am completely wrong but i have an awful feeling i wont be.

Was tempted to buy one a couple of years ago and have one for a 48hrs test drive,Why they have to fit such a wide centre console i will never know,it makes the front feel so cramped, not a great size boot as they have angled the boot quite sharply, engine doesnt live up to the sport name.Knew it wasnt for us,but everyone is different.

My manager has the V8 diesel one and he loves it.

The 2.7 Range Rover Sport is in a different league to the Shogun. Maybe and I say maybe the Shogun could be better on realiability but in every other respects the Range Rover is better - better ride solo and towing. I have towed with a Range Rover sport over 450 miles in france and it was perfect. I have towed a friends caravan with a Shogun for about 50 miles and it was no where near as comfortable. The 2.7 Range Rover is good and the newer 3.0 lit even better. Don't forget the Shogun is now old technology and I can't understand why they have not brought out a new model

Shogun every time, we have just got the new shape Shogun real comfy and bags of power with the 3.2 DD engine, had the 2.8 GLX for ten years never had a spanner on it apart from Services and a back brake light, 106,000 when we traded it in.

Had a test drive in the Ranger Rover Sport couldn't see the 10k difference between that and the Shogun.

Maybe l am biased having had three shoguns.

Hi, have had experience of both, in the past Land Rover have suffered with reliability although it is much improved with later models. Where the land Rover really wins out is driving when not towing, as the Mitsubishi wallows about like a Boat.

I totally agree with your comments in relation to the Range Rover Sport being in a different league/class etc to the Shogun and they are a delight to drive ( when not actually at the dealers).HOWEVER overall they are just not up to scratch for what you pay for them.

NEVER AGAIN!

My heart always tugs away to the LR dealer but then the head takes over just in time. The Disco, RR, and RRsport are in a class of their own but I just couldn't cope with the reliability issues anymore. I would sooner have a wallowy old fashioned 4x4 that works consistantly. Followed the Disco with a pajero and now have a rexton, they do the job I want, cost peanuts and work.

Hope this isn't too much of a dissapointment, many people have LR products that do work, they were built on wednesdays.

Currently drive a grand cherokee 3.0V6 CRD and the only vehicle I would change it for is a Range Rover. Dont care what anyone else says about them, I want one.

I also have a Jeep Overland 3.0 CRD (Mercedes Engine). It has been absolutely bomb proof and that is precisely WHY i dont want a RR Sport.

The Range Rover Sport is an absolutely gorgeous looking car ( far nicer than my Jeep). That said i have no desire to be on first name terms with the Land Rover serice Dept hence why i will NEVER AGAIN touch any of their products.

Have towed with a number of vehiles, but two half years ago brought a Discovery 3 and had no issues with it. It towed like a dream and was very comfortable and reliable. Have just changed that for a new discovery $ with the 3.0L lump, am looking forward to this even more. With any luck you will have no issues with your RRS. Look on line for the RRS forum and get advice fro there.

Well the last thing you get with RR Sport is Sporty perfomance from the diesels.

Don't be fooled that you are buying some hot hatch eating 4x4, the sport offers snail like perfomance for the badge it wears.

Even the new engine is a snail.

"range rover = great and now reliable" Since when and in who's book? Read the reveiws, LR are still serving up far to many unreliable RR's and Disco 3's. Indian roads here have Toyota's and Nissans mainly, often with mega miles on th clock and still oing strong. We saw new Range Rover and Disco 3 in Mumbai. Range Rover broken down outside hotel and Disco being towed behind a truck.

Just remember when buyinh LR. BUYER BEWARE!

same old same old yawn yawn, its allways the same ones complaining about land rover un reliability and allways the owners who have actually owned these cars that give the corect response.

i had a discovery tdi 300 it was totally reliable and never let me down in 70.000 miles but it was awfull to tow with due to it being pretty unstable, i then had a discovery 3 diesel, it was plenty fast enough for such a big car it again never let me down allthough i only had it for 20.000 miles it was a huge improvement on stability and it looks far better than any other 4x4 currently on the market. i went off the 4x4 scene when i realised i didnt need one to tow my van and a mpv was more suitable for me however when another driver colided with my s max at the time i was given a new freelander to use for 2 weeks (an 09 plate) this car was allso a huge jump forward in terms of quality for land rover and was a fine tow car and commuter vehicle, the only thing i didnt like was the auto box but then i dont like any auto boxes.

i allso have vast experiance of the shogun, my father has one and my friend has one, they are ok cars but they are allso extremely outdated very noisy and very thirsty and definately not worth the money with being such outdated technology, if the shogun was not reliable after so many years of the same technology then questions would really need to be asked.

yawn yawn, same old LR faithfull who can't face the reality that they still turn out far to many duff cars ven if they do look fancy!

I've owned quite a few in the past and know people who have bought the latest models in UK, EU, UAE, Australia and elsewhere, that's why I ask where does the myth of reliability come from. Shoguns may be a bit outdated but I'd rather have reliability first rather than dodgy LR technology that lets you down and works on a whim.

Reveiws from buyers such as this are still to common

I purchased the Discovery 3 for my retirement and to undertake a major round Australia trip and have to say when I took delivery I thought this is the best car I had ever owned, three years and 50,000 kilometres down the track my experience includes, instrument pack faulty and replaced, air suspension faults, two new front differentials, tie rod replacement, RH front lower ball joint arm and ball joint replaced, second lower ball joint replaced, three wheel alignments, front window not working, loose wiring, indicators not working, loose wires, water leaking from sunroof, (twice), radio complete fail, an intermittent fault with another window not working and countless stop light globe replacements. The vehicle has never been off road, always garaged. I have never suffered the litany of maintenance difficulties and inconvenience with any other vehicle, save this Discovery 3. I note from some recent advertising that the Discovery 3 TDV6 has won fourth year in succession both the

Yawn, yawn - mine's better than your's ........... again!

Thanks to the internet anyone can find negative comments about ANY make and model of vehicle. There are duffers about from all manufacturers including the so called prestige German companies.

Go for what you fancy - whatever you choose make sure you have a decent Dealer and warranty, and just enjoy.

Robin,

there are poorly built cars in any price range, from

ANY manufacturer.

If your RR Sport has been well screwed together then you will have a gorgeous looking, dream to drive car.

Good luck and enjoy it.

Kind Regards Darryl

Buying from a "good dealer" in Brum or Chelmsford is not a lot of good when the RR or Disco 4 suspension or diff cop out on route to Genoa or Casablanca. All a good dealer will do is solve problems when your in his locale. What's needed is a car that's fit for purpose and LR trade on elitism rather than quality!

"mines better than yours" what utter rubbish! Reliability is the issue and what any serious touring caravanner wants surely.

How can you dismiss registered users comments on reliability and ownership of cars when you have all the questions on caravan build quality and fixture and fittings here and in other forums.
