Yugo Zastavas, which were based on the old Fiat 128, were actually still being built until late 2008. Another rare make of car of about the same era is the Talbot. You don't see many of them anymore, either.

Hi,

My wife needed a tidy car to go visiting staff at home, sometimes to sack them. Yugo 113 was about cheapest (and better than her rusty Crapi). It was adequate ..... just.

Then we bought a Yugo 55A, which was better. Would just touch 100mph.

Then we bought a Yugo 65A. Stupidly fast, change into 5th at 100mph. It was great fun to let an Escort sit on your tail, drop a gear, and floor the accelerator ..... watch the Escort driver's face in your mirror. My son heaped contempt on it ..... until we put him on the insurance, then he shut up. Years later he told us that that car was notorious amongst the Swansea Valley Boy Racer fraternity. He still yearns for it.

Then one day we were offered a very good trade-in against a Honda CRX, which would just hit 70mph in SECOND. We didn't put our son on that insurance.

It was the conflict in Yugoslavia that put paid to Zastavia in UK. Trade sanctions?

Talking of rare breeds, here are pictures of two not so common cars that I once owned. No prizes for knowing what they are though.

THIS WAS MY SECOND CAR, BACK IN 1965

... AND THIS WAS ONE I HAD A FEW YEARS LATER, IN 1974

Yes, it's a Corsair, but one of the earlier pre-V4 models.

Hi Lutz

I am compiling a database of all 1500cc ford corsairs I come across. Would you be able to email any further photos of the car and/or provide any additional info about the car?

Thanks and regards

Paul
