Rawplugs but there not ?

Hi there

I am wishing to put some item,s on the caravan wall like a towel rail.

I know from this forum that you do not use rawplugs on caravans so what are the things you use? Looked on E bay would go to shop but I do not know what I am looking for by if you know what I mean ?

Caravan inside "walls" tend to be textured fibreboard on top of polystyrene or similar insulation. Some may be thin ply. I suggest trying to loacate things like towel rail on doors rather than wall as the load of wet towels could be considerable. However, if it is really necessary, some inserts made for plasterboard should be suitable. Get a catalogue from Screwfix and you will see quite a choice.

Have you looked at Twist N Lock, things like towel rail which stick using suction rather than being screwed on to the wall

I need to replace my loo roll holder as at the moment needs a contortionist to reach it when sat down and am looking at these

There are some available in Argos,Tesc direct and B & Q

I am a bathroom and kitchen fitter so I spend all day fitting things to walls and I would recommend just screwing straight into the walls but dont over tighten them or they will just keep turning( dont use a cordless unless you are used to tham or you will over do it ). Also if you havn't got the fittings yet get the ones with a large ase plate so it speads the load.

Wallboard is almost always 3mm ply and will stand little weight or pulling and pushing on it's own, today in manufacture thin metal plates are placed wherever a strength is required then the wallboard goes on top, in this way the metal plate holds the screw not the board

Not having these plates on the windows, what I did when a blind guides screws came loose was to use a very small 'rawlplug' in the same hole but glued it in with polymer wood glue.

As this type glue sticks to anything it means the plug is also attached firmly to the insulation which offers somewhat more strength.

Just a word of caution. If the van is new, or even fairly new, and you are ever thinking of a part exchange, do not drill holes in the walls as you will decrease the value significantly.

As mentioned try something that hangs over a door and is removable.

Many thanks to you all Regards Steve
