Rear Cycle carrier for a Landrover Discovery

Hi!

Could anyone reccommend a suitable rear Cycle carrier for a Landrover Discovery TD5 2001, Y Plate. I would need to still be able to tow with at least two bikes on the back. 4 whilst not towing if possible.

At the moment I put two bikes on the roof but need step ladders to get them up and I am getting quite fed up with doing it as my Wife has to help, we always fall out and this added with her dodgy directioning whilst reversing / hitching up, the added stress could result in a serious domestic incident. (Don't tell her I have writen this!)

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

Chris, depending what tow bar you have (bolted or swan neck) you could try the Thule bolt on. I just got the Freelander 2 and use this carrier very successfully. Needs the bolt on tow ball though. Failing this you will be looking at strap ons but with a flat rear end this might not be advisable....

We have a spare wheel mounted one and it will take up to 4 bikes. You fit a plate behind the spare wheel and then a bit goes through the centre of the wheel and you padlock the carrier to it.

Costs just over &80 and we have had one for series 1 and 2 - just make sure you buy the right one! From paddock spares.com

just to echo gforce's post. Get one for the spare wheel as this will allow you access to the boot more freely.

Make sure you get the right one though some dont actually fit despite claims they do. Got stung trying to get one for a Freelander - brake light mounted behind the spare prevents fitting.

our bike carrier was ok with our last caravan but when we tried to put onto the back of our car with our new caravan we couldnt get the van out of our drive due to space between car and van this was not a problem with our last van so please check you have enough room.
