Our previous tow car had a cd multiplay system and the new one needs mp3 player, I welcome any advice or recommendations, not great on techi stuff thinking of a basic player to load cd s on to and keep in car, and ideas welcome

Easy way if you have USB is fill a memory stick up.otherwise I use my iPhone via Bluetooth or cable.

I use a first generation iPod Touch with 32gb memory and it works fine via the USB socket, assuming the car can read Apples software. Alternatively it will also work without the car's infotainment screen just by me selecting playlist and playing. It will also work via the Aux sockets in the car but it then has to be controlled solely from the iPod and you cannot see anything on the car's screen. For first generation IPOD Touch Apples version of Bluetooth ISO standard isn't compatible with many others!! But my Gen 2 iPod Touch is compatible and the car can see it. My wife iPhone 5 works fine.
Depending on you car's systems a cheap option is to put MP 3s on CD or SD card, or USB memory stick. A lot will depend on whether your car can read and display album and track details etc. Me, I am happy to stick 50 track mixed playlist on which means that I don't have to bother ferreting about when I am driving.

You do not say whether the car needs mp3 fed to it, or it needs audio from an mp3 player. If it is the latter then anything will do. The simplest option is a mobile phone with, say, a 16GB memory card in it. You can pick up something suitable used for as little as £30 or so, otherwise any form of music player such as an iPod. Also check if the car kit has Bluetooth built in. If so it may only work with your phone but usually if it does it will also work with music from your phone memory.
I wonder if you are a little confused over the player type. mp3 is one format of compressed recording, m4a or AAC as used by Apple is another but it does not matter if you are only feeding audio to the car kit. On the other hand if the kit specifies mp3 then it implies that you have either a USB connector or a SD card slot. You can also use mp3 on a CD which means the equivalent of maybe 10-12 CDs on one disc.
Start with telling your readers on here the make, model, and year of car and the make and model of player if it is not the manufacturer's original.
Hi Woodentop, thanks for your reply, the car is 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe, yes there is USB port and I have managed to connect Sony mp3 player to the system, only specification in handbook seems to be no lead, so am sorted now as the Sony plays through the car info screen.
